So our placement announcement is going to happen soon (unofficially it is already happening by our university / professors). Can anyone elaborate as to what follows next regarding our departure?

For example, (i have already come in contact with Todai about my accomodation) i am waiting for my placement results that will officially be announced in June. However, i have no idea as to what expect from that point and onwards. I have been slightly informed that we will have to sign a paper confirming our scholarship and then we have to apply for VISA. When will those stages take place, and am i missing something?

Hey, the process starts as soon as your Embassy / consulate officially releases your placement results. You sign the pledge, receive your itinerary and flight ticket by end of February. And visa by March. This information is from my country.
Could someone else please confirm/ correct this information?

I have a question I would like someone to explain : Do MEXT contact my 3 choices universities regarding final placement at the same time and once they receive a confirmation stop the process in order to place me ? Or do they contact a single university at a time and switch to the second or third choice when a university rejects me ?
I am asking because no university of mine are willing to share info's regarding my placement ...

I think it's the latter as you mentioned and it's mentioned in the application guideline. I don't think they would suddenly change rules .. Your university " prof" the one who is in charge of letting you visit your home country .

I'm pretty sure it's the former, the scholarship only covers our 1st travel to Japan and the return ticket from Japan upon scholarship expiration ( however, the following is extracted from the scholarship application guideline provided: If a grantee continues to stay in Japan after the scholarship period has ended, he/she will not be paid travel expenses to return to the home country for a temporary return. which means you won't get your return ticket if you will continue to work in Japan upon graduation etc.)
Any cost for returning to your home before the expiration of the scholarship, you have to fork out from your own pocket.

And Buke.. i am really glad that i get to stay a few hundrent feet off my campus. And not only that, but the building itself looks absolutely stunning! It's also near a park so it's full of plants. I will rent a small 17m^2 single apartment that costs approximately 300 euro per month. What about your apartment? is it about the same?

I will also depart for Japan in April 2016.

Hello, my first choice is GSFS too, but under division of Biosciences, Department of Computational Biology and Medical Sciences. My prospective professor's lab is located in Shirokanedai campus.

As far as I know, we cannot name the dormitory to live in, and the assignment of the lodge is based on the location of our main campus. Here's the thing, I don't know how they define "main campus". Does "main campus" mean where the prospective professor's lab is located (in my case, Shirokanedai campus), or the campus that houses the department (if any), or the campus that houses the graduate school (in my case, Kashiwa campus)?

I didn't raise these questions to the authority, as I have decided not to live in a lodge.
Incidentally, I viewed the department's curriculum and got to know that the master course's lectures will be given in several campuses. If I manage to pass the master course's entrance exam, I will need to commute here and there to attend different classes, mainly in Hongo and Shirokanedai campuses.

To @Buke, it is indeed inconvenient to live in Komaba lodge when the commute from Komaba lodge to Hongo campus takes 44-60 minutes. However, the total of monthly rental, internet fee, utilities and etc. is reasonable, it is about ¥55,255 / month (the 15.0m² room with bath/toilet unit). If you are planning not to live in Komaba lodge, prepare to pay a huge amount of upfront cost (deposit, key money, agent's commission, guarantor company fee, fire insurance etc.) in addition to the first month rental. The upfront cost can go from minimum 2 times to maximum 6 or 7 times of the monthly rental, depending on the room.

There are some rooms near Hongo campus that are targeting to rent to students, so the rental is really cheap, albeit small (6.6m² to 15m²). Google "部屋探し" and find rooms near Hongo, then decide whether or not to live in a lodge.
P/S: be mindful of some really cheap rooms as they might not have bathroom attached.
