MEXT Scholarship 2016 (Research)

Congratulations to all those who've passed!! 😄
I've also been accepted by MEXT and I'll be studying as a master degree student at TOYO university at Kawagoe campus which is located in Saitama.
I wish you all the best 😅

@mirzawaqar09 bro did u recieve call from embassy too.

Yes Dear I got Email from Embassy.

Here this the text of email...

Dear MEXT Candidate,

I am pleased to inform you that MEXT headquarters in Tokyo has accepted your application for the scholarship. They are now working on placing you in one of the Japanese universities stated in your application form. We will let you know about your university once your admission process is completed. After which, we will be asking you to apply for visa in March 2016.

Congratulations on achieving this scholarship.

Regards,

Today I also got applications form from my supervisor. These are lab registration forms. Today I filled and sent them. He said he communicate to MEXT about my arrival date (which is April 6, 2015).

Last day Embassy of Pakistan told me in email they will host orientation of MEXT Candidates in the mid of March 2016.

Hmm, it appears that the members who have gotten replies are from non-Asian countries (congratulations btw)!

Please correct me if I'm wrong. ^^ Just looking for some sort of trend to ease the muffled panic that's going on at the back of my mind.

(Singaporean here!)
I am from Pakistan and I got email from both Embassy and Professor about my selection.

Regards

Anyone know if every successful applicant must receive a some kind of form from the supervisor/university to proceed to placement or depends on the university?

I'm still waiting some news from the embassy :nailbiting:

Congratulations to everyone who passes the second screening!

I still got no news from embassy. I guess it's because I have 2 private universities in my placement preference.

I checked last year's thread and it seems like I will get results only in the end of December.

Is there anyone who got the result and applied to private universities?

Hi Alison,
I passed the secondary screening and I only applied to private university. I believe you will get the result soon☺

Hello friends ... What are the chances of being accepted in universities such as Tokyo University, Kyoto Univesity or Osaka University ... etc. And what are those chances depend on ?
Thank you

Hi everyone,
Nice to meet you. Have been following the forum for a while, but this is my first post.

I've applied to the MEXT Research Scholarship from Europe, and just got an email from the embassy to say that I have passed the secondary screening with MEXT and that the ministry will now ask universities to accept students. I've only got 2 LoAs from The University of Tokyo (1st Choice) and Waseda (2nd Choice) [my third choice was Ritsumeikan, but they didn't accept me :(]. They said that results from the univeristies will be out late Decemeber - early March.

From what I'm hearing here, it sounds like some people are already getting confirmation from their universities that they have been accepted?

I was confirmed by my supervisor (with whom I have been in contact with for many months) that my paperwork was received at Kobe University and I was accepted.

This comes a week or so after hearing from my local consulate-gen that I had passed the secondary screening.

KobeU was the first of my three choices (Sophia, Tsukuba were second and third - likely never contacted), and it is with great relief that I received my professor's email today.

Furthermore, they have accommodated my decision for an October departure, and will allow me to take the language classes for six-months from that time.

I am so excited! Christmas has come early this year!

Well if you received the LoAs from those universities I guess your chances are the same as the rest of us. Another good thing is that those universities are all National Universities, so if everything goes on fine there's a good chance that you'll be placed in your first choice.

As for the variables that determine to which university you'll go, as far as I know they take into account the popularity of the faculty/university to see if there's placement oportunity (specially if the professor can accept more students/international students), as well as budget issues, which is - in my experience and what I heard from a professor in Keio - basically to place you in a national university if you have one of those among your options, no matter if it's your third choice, which is more or less what happened to me. I had KEIO as my first choice, Nagoya as second and Waseda as third option, and the government decided to contact Nagoya University (I don't know for sure if they contacted KEIO but I doubt it), for which I am actually really happy hehehe.

I don't think you'll have much trouble getting the scholarship with those university choices in case you got the three LoAs.

guys, I have also received the results today!
I've passed the second screening!!
soooo happy, but still so worried 😅

good luck to everyone!

Thank you so much for such an explanation ... The reason I was asking for that issue because there is a note under the placement preference form that we had submitted to the embassy which states that there would be a difficulty to get a final acceptance from those universities due to their popularity ... etc among the other universities ... Actually my first choice is Osaka uni 2nd and 3rd are Nagoya institute of technology and Kumamoto University respectively .. By the way I noticed that most of applicants are getting updates from their universities or their profs, When I asked my universities to share with me my updates they said it is prohibited to update you with your progress regarding final placement and you will receive the news from the embassy only !!
If we got our second choice we might arrange a meeting in Nagoya city .... All the best friend :)

Congrats. That makes two of us from Ireland :) I guess you must be the girl I met at the embassy when we were sitting the exams?

Also, to all those worried about getting accepted, try not to worry so much. I didn't even have a LOA, but MEXT came back to me and offered to speak to universities directly on my behalf. I've subsequently passed the second screening.

The message I take from all of this is that we're all valued pretty highly by MEXT, so we should be confident :)

Bahaha, it's a small world. That's me indeed. Or at least, as far as I remember I was the only girl at the interview. Good to make contact with you again :)

First off, congrats on getting this far! I heard that you'd also been nominated by the embassy. That's really interesting to hear about your LoA situation, and glad to hear it worked out for you. Just have to sit tight until they give us more news I guess, or have you heard your final result already?

Yep - that's why I thought it was you! Yeah it's pretty crazy alright.

No more news yet, other than that I've passed the second screening. I already quit my job here in London though - I have a 3 month notice period, so really have no other choice. Bit of an understatement to say that I really hope everything goes well now!

Can we PM here btw? Just joined, so have no idea...

And here was me thinking you'd recognised the red panda...

Kinda comforting to know that there are other people on the same page as me, anyway!

Oh wow, that must be kinda stressful. But from what you said about the LoA, it sounds like they really want you, so I'm sure you'll be fine!

I've attempted to send you some sort of thing, so hopefully you've got a notification about it.

That's right, there are a number of factors to be considered for placement, but from what I've heard that's pretty much it, once you pass the second screening, it's mostly up to the professor to formally tell the university that he can (and will) accept you in his laboratory and take responsibility for you, etc. (If someone else has some more experience regarding this please feel free to correct me or share the info with everyone else).

With those options I don't think you'll have much trouble, you have your National Public Universities which should take out most of your stress as your list is not full of top tier/expensive private universities.

And the last point is totally true, you should be somewhat discreet regarding the contact with universities at this point, as it is basically their task to sort everything out and then give you a formal answer through the Embassy of Japan in your country (Or at least that's what the Embassy of Japan in my country has told me, wait until January hahaha)... You can consider yourself kind of "lucky" to be contacted by your professor to update you on your MEXT scholarship process hehehe... I guess if you have a good relationship with your prospective academic advisor you could send him a polite email asking if there has been any news or something, but I guess it depends on your communication/friendship levels and the professor's attitude. Usually "no news is good news" applies to this selection process given that you're an Embassy recommended applicant.

It'd be nice to meet once we're in Japan, we've all been following up everyone's updates in this thread that it feels like we've known each other for some time now.👍

I wish i could hear updates from Universities/Professors regarding final placement in order to kill the waiting .
In fact the reason behind me selecting national Universities that our government doesn't allow students to study at private universities around the world, so this matter we had nothing to do with it.
All my advisers are friendly. in fact from what i have faced, all the Japanese people are friendly and that is a privilege we will benefit during our stay in Japan, :) .
Anyway, i am lucky to have friends in this forum which i have been gaining such a valuable information during my application process since last summer, friends who always don't hesitate when it comes to help and guide each other academically and educationally :)
I wish to meet and befriend with many friends from this forum in person during my stay in Japan :)
Wish you all the best of luck :)
