Nope, they both had public/national universities listed as well. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason for MEXT's decisions...maybe it's related to the applicant's country...Those placed at privates listed no other schools?
I'm interested in learning about this process even though my first and second choices are national unis... lol

Hello Ardhi.adhary ...I am Mustafa from the MEXT group on FBI have already received LoAs from Kyoto University (2nd choice) and TMU (3rd choice), and I have submitted them to the embassy together with the preference form.
I still have to wait until September 14 when the result from Todai (1st choice) is announced, which will decide whether I will get the LoA from them or not. Luckily, the embassy in my country allow me to send the last LoA after their deadline (September 15), as long as I provide them with correspondence prove (email conversation) with Todai
So, I could only waiting and praying for now .. :cold:
Am i the only one who still dont have any LOAs yet? All of the universities that i've applied to only issue an LOA in mid to late September, and there is a possibility that they would not accept me though. 3 of 4 univ that i have applied to are private univ. since its difficult to find national university that have a product / fashion design course which suitable to my research.
If the worst case happened (i didnt get any LOAs), is there still any possibility to get the schorlarship?
Hi, Mustafa. Good luck to you toHello Ardhi.adhary ...I am Mustafa from the MEXT group on FB... congratulation for getting the LoAs ... especially that you have been receiving LoAs from a high ranked Universities ... all the best man ..
Don't worry, I don't have any LOA's yet either. I'm waiting my results from my first choice maybe next week, and I sent to 2 other universities but I don't have the highest hopes... Even if they do accept me, I'm not sure I'll get the letter in time since they don't send it my email =X I hope I can convince them to send me a scanned copy! Good luck with your results!
Hi, Mustafa. Good luck to you to
Hi ardhi, you're the one who add me in facebook right? salam kenal hehe.
is it hard to get a LoA from TMU? TMU just replied my mail and they would review my documents first. its kinda silly that I was contacting the professor only, tough we should send the application trough post mail. Glad that they still allow me to send my document by e-mail after the deadline passed. Hope i will hear the good news from them soon.
Hello ArdhiHi, Mustafa. Yes, I'm the same person on FB
I got LoA from TMU after contacting the professor, as well as their International Affair Office. They indeed need you to send the documents by post or PDF files and review your application. In my case, it took around 2 weeks before they approve my application and sent the LoA.
Good luck. I hope you also get the LoA from them soon
Hello Ardhi.. We have got the LoAs ... I got 3 LoAs (Alhamdulelah), from Osaka University, Nagoya Institute of Technology and Kumamoto University .. Now our part is done and all we have to do is the LONG WAIT till late of December or beginning of January because from now and on, our case will be between MEXT hands .. All the best for all applicants ..
Congratulations for getting the LoAs ... 2 weeks ago i needed to change something inside my application form so i inquired the embassy about that matter ...The embassy said at this point we cannot change a single word regarding your documents because we (The embassy) had already sent them to Tokyo ... my point is our documents are in Japan now ... So from now and on we need to start prayingHey guys! Nice to know that everyone is doing fine and receiving their LoAs. I would like to update my status as well, I have received my three LoAs and they will be sent to my country in the following days (Postal service here sucks), anyone aiming for Keio University, Nagoya University or Waseda University too?
I still haven't heard anything from our Embassy of Japan about the deadline to delivery the physical LoAs, but we were asked to send them a scanned version by September 11th, do you guys know when is the estimated date when the Embassies of Japan start sending our application documents to Japan for the second screening?
Hello ...Hello everyne,
I am new to this thread.
I have just a few questions that I hope someone here can help me with
I am currently studying at a private language school in Japan and I am interested in a research degree in Journalism. I have a bachelors degree in journalism from an American University.
Because I cannot go though the American embassy due to the fact that I am living in Japan, what is the best way to apply for the MEXT scholarship?
Contact the school directly? I was thinking Waseda University because they offer a Journalism Masters.
How did you guys find teachers to sponsor you? Did you just randomly email teavhers you found online from the University?
Sorry this is all new to me and there isn't too much info on the net about it.
thanks a lot.
Take a look through the "MEXT Scholarship 2015 (Research Students)" thread, starting around late-October to early-January you will see all the people who didn't pass (those on JRef, not counting all others). To be honest, I have never heard of anyone being rejected on the secondary screening.
It really doesn't make any sense: you have gone through the primary screening AND the universities have already accepted you. Now, if you haven't got any LoAs, they might not let you pass, but with LoAs, it should be a 100% guarantee.
