looking for a japanese name

hello everyone,
it's me again. i need help finding a japanese name. i was wounding if there is a japanese name that sounds like shawn or sean and is a female name or unisex name? at first i through the name might of been shun but i'm not sure anymore. anyone help me?

I recommend "Shou" or "Show". It is "翔" in Kanji. This kanji means "flying high with own wings" or "spread its wings"
This kanji is used for the male naturally but sometimes used for the feminine.

isn't shou the last name of robin shou who star in mortal kombat. so shou is an unisex name? is shunsuke a unisex name too or just a male name? i
went to youtube.com and type in shun but i heard shun two different ways one sounds like shong and the other sounds like shoein. but if you say it like shong it sonds close to the name shawn to me.

Yes, shou and shun are an unisex name. But xxxsuke, an instance shunsuke or shousuke, is a male name.

I think shou or shun is the closest to shawn or sean. But pronunciation differ from one country to another in detail. Maybe there is other proper name but I can't recall.

No, and "Ryu" can only be pronounced ONE way. Ryu -- that's like the English "you" (you, me, he, she -- you) with an R in front of it.

It can, however, be mispronounced all to hell.

I would tend to disagree. Shou and Shun by themselves are both male names, although Shou-chan could be an abbreviation of Shouko (a female name).

well if you watch street fighter alpha movie ryu's kid brother is name shun and they say it like sh-hong or sh-hun. well growing up playing street fighter 2 i always though you said ryu like why u. but if you notice in the street fighter IV and street fighter movies they pronounced it different and the american version of ronin warriors they say also say ryu like why u but in the ronin warriors ova they pronounced different too.

well ajbryant the same thing happen to the name sakura too. like when you watch the american version of cardcaptors they pronounced it different than they pronounced it on naruto. i listen to it again and maybe you do say shun like shoe-n but it sounds a little like soon too but i could be wrong.

I really wouldn't take American dubs of Japanese anime as a guide to correct pronunciation. Just because someone is a voice-actor in an anime doesn't mean they know thing one about the Japanese language.

well becki_kanou they getting a little better pronunciation anime characters with their japanese names. well i don't know many anime characters beside shun in street fighter alpha and shun from knights of the zodiac/saint seiya and shun from virtua fighter series and the main villain in capcom's legend of kay is name shun too.but knights of the zodiac/saint seiya hasn't been on tv for a long time and it's hard to find english episode of saint seiya on youtube. i have to rented or buy the dvds of knights of the zodiac/saint seiya. but i really just like to see saint seiya since i know the voice actors in knights of the zodiac is bad and make 'em sound like surfers. i'm just hoping saint seiya has the show in english i know it has english subtitles.

cool jimmyseal i didn't know shou can also be a japanese name too. i just thought it was a chinese name. kind of like shun is both a chinese and japanese name. i also forgot there is a guy name shun in the bakugan series too. but can anyone tell me if the saint seiya dvd is just in japanese and english subtitles or do they have it in english? i don't mind if they have the craping english voice actors.

the reason when i type i sound like a kid is because i have a learning disability which makes my word misspell or misplace i can't help it. i know we been off topic a little. the reason i'm looking for a japanese name is i met this girl during the new years week and i only seen her twice but i know where she work. she works at a japanese restaurant in the mall. i just got her first name and that she from japan. i talk to a guy who work there. but he really don't understand me. and doesn't really know who i'm talking about. she might be working there anymore but he said most of the people who work there is vietnamese and chinese. but i usually go to the mall once a week since i can't drive my parents are not sure i'll ever learn to drive. the doctor said when i was little i would never learn to ride a bike.

well mike cash you mean this thread sounds like a 12 year old post it. well i'm not very good at japanese names i can't even pronounce my favorite manga artist,akira toriyama name. i think you pronounce akira like ah-key-la. but i was looking for a name that sounds close to shawn or sean since it's a boys name. i know we got off topic. i look up the name ''shou'' on behindthename.com and babynology.com and both say shou is a boy's name. but on behindthename it says the name means soar or fly. and i look up the name shou on google and it's mostly photos of guys. i do remember there was a guy name shou tucker on full metal alchemist. but right now shion and shun are in my top list.
