Saw the trailer too, thought it was okay, but my first thought while rolling my eyes was, "Oh, good lord! Not another sword and sandal flick!" After critical and commercial flops like Alexander, King Arthur and Troy, I thought Hollywood learned its lesson and stopped churning out that stuff. Guess I was wrong. Personally, I don't hold out much, if any hope that Kingdom of Heaven will be any better than those. But that's just my opinion.

Another historical revisionist and propagandic material?

I get the feeling that the whole movie might be like "The Passion of Christ".

This movie might make everyone fight each other instead of making them get along with each other.


It's much better if they done a fantasy story instead of mucking around with past events and then try to sell it as this is what really happen.

Maybe the should do it in the style of Asuran (forgot its full title) and Lodoss SenKi (or what ever, I forgot the right title)?

Then again, maybe that's what the Lord of the Rings movies and the Star Wars movies are all about?
 
Saw it last night.

This movie was well done. Although a bit long, but it kept the viewer's interest going. The battle for Jerusalem reminded me of the Lord of the Rings battles.
 
well done? :D well, it goes on one shelf with Gladiator, that`s for sure
 
I saw it on tuesday and just like the last few Hollywood flicks I was disappointed again...Come on Hollywood, make some movies !!! I guess their scriptwriters are ready to be dumped ...

-> One is for the movie, in a strong way (NEW-YORK-TIMES !)
 
The reviews on Kingdom of Heaven were lackluster here in Philly. And it barely cracked the 20 million mark after its opening weekend. Not at all good for a flick that reportedly cost 135 million to make. The only reason it finished in the top spot was because the competition wasn't all that hot either. Looks like Heaven will join Troy, King Arthur and Alexander in the sword & sandal flop bin.

I liked Troy actually (even though the introduction of the Trojan horse was... bleh) but I digress... :-) At any rate, i'll probably fork over the ﾂ??500 this Sat. to check out Kingdom myself. Not much else playing over here atm except Blade 3 which I caught last weekend.

Blade 3 ? Lol that flick is out in vid. store atm :P Japan is always WAAAAAY behind with movies although they are so America based
 
Tell me about it. Star Wars Ep.III doesn't get released here until sometime in July too... 8-( The worst case of delay has to be that Ashton Kutcher movie "Butterfly Effect" which opens here 5/14 LOL. Talk about behind the times...

To be sure, "Kingdom of Heaven" is not the first swords-and-sandals epic to miss the mark with American audiences; neither "Alexander" nor "King Arthur" nor "Troy" was embraced by audiences in this country last year. Analysts said that the "Crusader" movie's R rating contributed to its weak opening, along with reviews that declared Mr. Bloom's performance inadequate.

My guess is that people are refusing to watch what they believe are crappy movies. It damn sure doesn't help that the cost of going to the theaters has become almost prohibitively expensive with a ticket at the ten dollar mark these days. And that's before factoring in the cost of snacks which are also ridiculously pricey. Why waste good money to watch junk? But I think Hollywood is just overreacting as that so-called slump will break in a HUGE way when Star Wars: Episode III opens next Thursday. You can take that to the bank!

Thursday? The movie airs the 18th (we're in Europe, the movie is from America) here...on tuesday at midnight 👍
 
Don't ask me to explain it, I'm clueless! If memory serves, Episodes I & II were released on Wednesdays, why Lucas chose a Thursday is beyond me, other than trying to get an extra day for box office moolah.

the premiere is on the 18th, and it will show normaly in the cinema thursday the 19th
