Okay, so I have to write a term paper for my Japanese literature class based on an interview that I did with a native Japanese speaker at my school. She picked 源氏物語...and summarized it in about 10 sentences. Obviously I'm going to be using other sources to complete my knowledge of the story before summarizing it myself in 800±200 characters.
However, another part of my paper requires: "a list of five new narrative devices that you feel useful and explanations of their functional usages". Well, here's my problem; she didn't use any narrative devices I don't already know, and I'm not exactly sure how to go find narrative devices.
So my question is this; are there any resources that list Japanese narrative devices? I really have no idea how to even begin to do this section of my report. Generally speaking, I'm either explicitly taught new grammar/narrative devices, or I come across something that I don't know and look it up. In this case I'm stuck because I don't know how to find something that I don't have any examples of.
