Hello-
I'm just writing this because of the confusion I've encountered while working with Japanese names. Here are a few examples:
七五三吉 being read as しめきち. I believe 吉 is read as きち, so how is it that three kanji (七五三) be read as only 2 syllables?
孫右衛門 being read as まごえもん. (This can be applied to any other names that end in 右衛門.) I do not understand the placement of the kanji 右 in the name, since 孫 is まご, 衛 is え, and 門 is もん.
権兵衛 being read as ごんのひょうえ. I don't understand how the の got into the reading of what I would usually have read as only ごんべえ or ごんべい.
If anybody can provide an explanation on the above names or on any Japanese naming rules, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. -Eric
