thanks guys,
i have a character in this story i'm working on. she's japanese but her last name is richardson which i don't really fit her japanese ethnicity. i know there is a few japanese with american last names but they live in america she was born and raise in japan that's why i was looking for the japanese name for richardson. and plus i kind of hoping to have her name start with a r kind of like peter parker, etc.

there are no "equivalents" like that between Japanese and European names. The closest you may get is a name that sounds vaguely similar. If her name is Richardson, it would just be written in katakana リチャードソン, maybe リチャドソン; this is just the Japanese pronunciation of the foreign name.

Why do you have a Japanese person named Richardson in your book? It doesn't make any sense.

According to undrentide's second link, there are 6 recorded cases of people in Japan with the surname "Rikizen." That's probably as close as you're going to get.

Are there patronymic surnames in Japanese?
I mean, if there's a patronymic prefix or suffix you could try that. You'd have to write in katakana though.

If you read a question and the first thing that comes to your mind is "WHY?", there may be something wrong with the question. By the way, are there any French first names that begin with the letter K? The name of the person in MY book is Kintaro but he is French. What would the French equivalent of the name Kintaro be? :p Sorryyyy.... I kiddddd!!!
