Japanese IME

あなた は 馬鹿 です。 by the way i saw the learn japanese website. it really sucks. the learn japanese website. it really sucks. jref is awesome and perhaps the best site i jref is awesome and perhaps the best site i've seen on the net. next to japan today. and basically most people don't know what their doing.

No icons on Japanese bar

My language bar does not show icons. Just 'JP Japanese', question mark, 'CAPS' 'KANA', and the minimize and options button. No 'Input Style', 'Input Mode', 'Conversion Mode', 'IME Pad', or 'Tools'.
It used to, in fact it still does...sometimes. I think it has to do with the application. I can open a Word window and the expanded version is there; if I open Notepad, I only get the short version and so cannot do much. Although for a while, it would be expanded for some Notepad windows and not for others???
What did I do? Can I get it back somehow? I've searched and searched every kind of option setting.
Has anybody encountered anything like this?
