As I write this, I have no idea what will become of my fiance and I. It isn't that I don't love her, I do. It's just that since 9-11, the US is harder to get into than your first girlfrie.... never mind, we'll leave it at it's hard.. err, difficult. Ugh.

So, I am faced with the choice of telling her that I have no idea how much time it will take me to save the thousands of dollars needed to bring her here legally and letting her decide what she wants to do, or just ending it.

I don't want to end it, but I also don't want her life to be stuck in limbo.

It hurts losing/potentially losing the one you love.

I have no idea what I will do at this point.

I'm married to a Japanese citizen and am finding out that the immigration laws make it really hard for people to stay here legally. Given what happened this makes sense and as a New Yorker I completely understand why things have been made harder over the past few years.
However, it all comes down to money (and lots and lots of tedious paperwork and waiting) unfortunately and even though you are married you still need to "sponsor" that person just like they need a "sponsor" to come here on a visa. Japan is considered a friendly country so I'm not so sure that you would have any problems getting the fiance visa other than maybe issues with money. I have some links for INS is you are interested. Maybe I will try to post them here. Good Luck, I hope it works out for you.

Oh and in answer to this question about Japanese and white people (or any other cultures) how can this even be a question??? Whoever loves each other loves each other and that should be the end of it.
As for white guys being attracted to Japanese women it seems like sometimes young guys(into anime, etc...) look at it as a sort of prize which is just awful. Probably because of all the old stereotypes of Asian women. This is just an observation of mine but of course this is not always the case and if there are honest and good intentions involved and real feelings what's the big deal??? I actually answered, "What are you talking about man??" because I couldn't even believe that this question was being asked! I realized my mistake afterwards though but the voting system doesn't allow you to vote twice. Sorry!!! So here's my vote: YES!!!GREAT COMBINATION!!!

I am so glad my husband got his Greencard stuff done 4-5 years ago, because it's really difficult to go through it now. The system has changed a lot since then. I still say getting a lawyer is best. I wouldn't have done it 5 years ago without one, so I definitely wouldn't go through it now without one!

I wouldn't say ignorance, I would say you haven't had to think about it yet

Seriously, the reasoning for the increased difficulties has part to do with the clampdowns on immigration after 9-11 as well as a clampdown on illegals and 'shady come to America and get married and get a divorce and still stay' schemes.

It has a lot to do with how much money you have now, and how good your lawyer is. Our INS department used to base a lot of the Visa application on your love and ability to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that you were in it for legit reasons. Now they want money and want to make you jump through hoops to prove you are legit.

Sadly, I don't have the money right now to bring my fiance over here. And I am not sure if it is right to keep making her wait.

All I have to say is that it is one of the few instances where I am frustrated by my country.
