Japan warship collides with freighter in Vietnam
A Japanese destroyer collided with a Cambodian freighter in the Vietnamese port of Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, but no one was injured and damage to the vessels was minor, Japan's defence ministry said.

The second incident involving a Japanese warship in two weeks may add to pressure on Japanese Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba to resign over his ministry's handling of the first collision, in which a destroyer ran over and sank a fishing boat, leaving two men missing, presumed dead.

The reason for the collision in Vietnam, which scratched paint off the Cambodian ship and bent a flag pole on the Japanese vessel, was not yet clear, a defence ministry spokesman said.

Kyodo said the Japanese destroyer Hamayuki had been conducting exercises.

The collision comes as Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda's popularity slips after the accident with the fishing boat in Japan last month, which has sparked accusation of a government cover-up over the events leading to the collision.

A Mainichi newspaper poll showed on Monday that 51 percent of respondents did not back Fukuda's cabinet compared to 30 percent who did. Support levels of more than 30 percent are widely seen by analysts in Japan as critical to staying in power.

A Vietnamese cargo ship collided with two Japanese destroyers, the Matsuyuki and Hamayuki, docked in Ho Chi Minh City port in Vietnam, a day after the Hamayuki collided with another boat in the same port, Kyodo News said.
The Vietnam-registered Hailong-45 hit the Matsuyuki at 9:27 a.m. Japan time today and collided with the Hamayuki two minutes later, Kyodo reported, citing unidentified officials at Japan's Defense Ministry. There were no reports of injuries, Kyodo said.
The Hamayuki suffered minor damage in a collision with a Cambodian freighter yesterday, Kyodo reported. The Hamayuki and two other Japanese destroyers were on a training cruise at the time, the news agency said.
The incidents came about two weeks after another Japanese destroyer, the Atago, sliced a fishing boat in half off the coast of Japan near Tokyo, leaving its father and son crew missing and presumed dead. The incident on Feb. 19 prompted opposition calls for Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba to resign.

What is going on? Those destroyers are equipped with advanced radar (part of the Aegis combat system) and yet they collide with other ships not once but TWICE? I wonder how the JMSDF is going to defend Japan when North Korea invades...

Please do pay attention to wording. The incident in the second post above, shows that the Japanese military vessels were docked...that means not moving. the Vietnamese vessel had been moving, and somehow managed to rub against two different ships within a short span of time--obviously.

In the first report, the Japanese ship had been moving. It was, however, in the port. The fact that all three ships were there at that port, however, is due to their having been on an exercise...not that they were, at the time of the collision, doing maneuvers.

The most likely, obvious problem here, would be port congestion, would it not? But, the second event, could be suspect in some way...maybe.

Otherwise...it's all coincidental. In all probability, there is nothing 'happening' at all, beyond simply things happening, as that what the universe is.
