China's Serious Environment Problem
China's Serious Pollution Problem

Are you going to China? Then I will tell you pollution in China is very serious. The Chinese environmental protection consciousness is very low. The Chinese industry economy increases quickly; pollution grows more serious more; and the great majority of Chinese are insensitive to the pollution. This is a Chinese, as well as, global disaster in the making. I request you help China.

Car and motorcycle traffic is increasing greatly. The population in China is multitudinous"1300000000".is five times as the population of the US. China is short of cultivated land. in spite of this case,The Chinese government is developing the private car industry greatly, new highway construction will take up large areas of land. Traffic accidents increased greatly. In 2003 200,000 people died in traffic accidents in China.

Building development is in mass confusion. Building technique is primitive and building in consuming large amounts of materials. In 2003 China poured 44% of the world's cement. Building a house will consume more amounts of cement brick and decorative colorful brick in China than The Western Nation. But these houses make little use of insulation letting heat flow out in the winter and letting the heat in during the hot summer months. House repairs are more difficult, too.chinese concerns beauty of own house very much, but chinese don't concern about environment round the house.they spend large money on their own house, but they are stingy in cost of the environment around their house.

Garbage removal is primitive.chinese don't know Garbage classification.waste plastic bags is visible everywhere. The Chinese people like to use plastic bags and batteries just once and then throw them away.china government pay great attention to beauty of city.they afford large money in images structure of city.but they pay little attention to garbage classification.large amounts of garbage is made by large consumption.

River is polluted by chemical fertilizer, pesticide, herbicides, chemical synthetic detergent(washing powders),industry waste water, human excrement and urine, garbage.waste water excrement and urine flow directly into river without any sanitation practices.the most river in china is unsuitable for drinking.many china people is harmed by drinking water in polluted river.

Education in protecting environment is blank. People's understanding and concept of protecting the environment is quite low. China's people are poor, but they are not frugal.Chinese are concerned the beauty of house but don't concerned the beauty of environment,Chinese are concerned about their own health but don't care about environmental health. They like to inject and swallow more medicines, eat more wild animals, but they don't realize that the polluted food, water and air is threatening their health greatly.

China is imitating the West's high pattern of consumerism. Chinese hope per a people owning private car and Motorcycle, living big and big house. Consuming large power source as Western nations do. The Chinese government is making effort to realize this aim. China is producing large cars and motorcycles, large cement and brick.Exploiting large coal mines and oil field, large ore mines. Building large multi-story buildings and huge highway construction patterns. Enlarging blindly more and more area of cities and towns land. Large areas of land are damaged by the exploitation of natural resources.

The population in China is multitudinous, 1.3 billion(perhaps 1.4or1.5 billion)people, five times the population of the US. China is short of cultivated land. The actual situation demands that China doesn't imitate the West's high consumption. China should develop electronic information consumption. Should develop economizing energy industries. If not, the Chinese would ruin their own environment,in further more, affect the global environment.

The Chinese don't realize that pollution is their most dangerous enemy.

I like green.like science.like internet. I adore a life which is simple but rich in spirit..oppose high consumption.

Japan is already helping China.

Japan's helpness is useless in protecting environment.

Japan have tried getting nations signed up to the Kyoto treaty...but China and India are making a new power plant every week so....
At the moment england is also trying hard to get everyone to help but there is no point small countries like england and Japan trying to make a difference when America, China, russia and india do nothing...or not much.

I think a major hurdle for environmental technology transfer from Japan to China is the blatant disregard for intellectual property that the latter has demonstrated in so many aspects of business and industry. It is also complicated by China's refusal to make compromises and problems in its own administrative structure for environmental policy implementation.

Japan is willing but isn't going to give away its technologies it has developed with huge investments for free.

do you realize how worthless kyoto is. Japan can't even meet it's own target never mind helping anyone else. In fact out of everyone who signed Kyoto only 1 might be able to meet their target. Plus the fact that it doesn't take into account other things. I've done extensive research about kyoto for school and even many environmentalists say its useless.

What needs be done is to create economic incentives instead of forcing the issue. For example governments should make contests for cars that get better mileage and cleaner coal power plants. Even with a small reward like 10 million every company will try for it for the sake of prestige. Make incentive and the markets will easily make it happen.

The Kyoto treaty is worthless because other countries wont even try. Some will not even get close but at least they are making a good try at it..even a little change is better then none but then other countries just blatantly say ...no not even trying.

You talked about economic incentitives but thats nothing new. In the UK each company has so many credits in the amount of pollution they are allowed to make and if they go over it they have to buy more (credits) from another company...imagine the bidding on that. The idea from the government is that companies will invest in new technology that produces less emissions and if every company did that then we would meet our target for the Kyoto treaty...and we are not even in the top 3 for the most pollution.

How is Japan selfish because China screwed up is environment? If Japan was smart enought to protect it's own environment than good for them (although I've heard startements to the contrary), it's not their responsibility to either help or police China's pollutions habits.

And I'm starting to get really tired of always hearing 'we're copying the western nations'. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. The west is not the consumer happy dreamland that a surprising number of people believe it to be. I'd say the west and asia are about neck in neck for biggest consumers so it's time to stop blaming us for your mistakes and start owning up.

Side note here about China and particularly Beijing, the host of the Olympics next year.

The air pollution in Beijing was one of the topics on the news last night.
There is so much air pollution in Bejing that many country's do not want to send their athletes there until the very last moment.

I truly feel sorry for the world class athletes that have to run in that pea soup and I hope that China is able to do something between now and then to make it easier on the athletes.

I wouldn't blame China's air pollution on Japan. For starters, it seems with China's rapid economic growth, it doesn't to want to focus on environmental factors. Or better, yet it seems China's government wasn't really thinking about the costs of their economic growth, it just wanted to catch up with other developed nations. There are environmental activists in China, but it seems they really don't have much of an impact. So hopefully in the long run, the government will really become aggressive at tackling environmental issues.

Doesn't China have enough people that it should be able to take care of it's pollution problems by themselves? It seems to me that China knows they are ruining their own country, but they (politicians) really don't care who they kill or hurt with pollution as there are so many people the loss wouldn't matter. That's the feeling I get, especially when there own people were killed by cold medicine and tainted toothpaste...it's really scary.

I cannot understand how Japan can be considered a selfish nation if it does not help China or other nations. Each sovereign nation is responsible for its own actions including its environmental policies.
Unfortunately, due to globalization, one country's problem can be other countries' problem. So, if Japan benefits financially and environmentally by helping other countries, it think that would make a good business sense for Japan to give a helping hand. But, if it is going to be just a charity case, then, Japan should leave that to UN or other international entities to deal that whole issue as an international/global issue.

Credits are different from incentives. And kyoto is a failure because it's policies are ineffective right down to the science of it.

Do you know what the credits are?
Each pollution making company gets so many. (E.G. 1000) Lets say company A can only work at 80% production because doing anymore without more credits will result in a big fine from the government. But dont forget its possible to buy credits from another company who is willing to sell. So company B invests in a new technology that produces less pollution meaning they need less credits and can then sell the remainer of their credits to company A or whoever else is willing to buy them. If 2 big companies decide to bid for those credits company B could end up making a big profit just through the sale of credits...if thats not an incentive to produce less pollution then god knows what is.
Alot of companies are probably buying loads of credits in order to keep their production the same without changing anything but for that to be possible other companies must be decreasing else where meaning our pollution in the UK goes down. Its a win win for everyone.
If you still dont understand it ill try and send you the proper paper for it.

Again no matter what the Kyoto treaty looked like it was worthless anyway from the day it was introduced because certain nations would not sign. (or if they are so great, make a better idea.)
I think for the countries that refused it, signing it would of meant their employment levels rising as they would of had to shut some places down in order to meet the demands of that treaty. So for some i guess its a case of
The Planet VS Your next vote.

Re: the upcoming Beijing Olympics, I look at this way. The amount of attention the issue of air quality, pollution levels, etc. has already had in the global media will only serve as a catalyst for China to get it into gear to start taking steps towards cleaning up the environment asap. China's government is spending a TON of cash to be able to host the Olympics so pressure to clean up beforehand will be huge. They already have to deal with damage control from quality control issues and I am sure they don't want to embarass themselves further by not tackling the pollution issues seriously. Only time will tell.

China is promising clear skies by shooting the sky with rockets.
It also painted some of the grass green to make sure it looked nice.
I don't think their environmental consciousness sprang to life for the Olympics in quite the manner they think it did.

As for the original topic, China isn't Japan's problem, China is China's problem, OR, China is everyones problem. Western nations are guilty of encouraging unsafe and environmentally unhealthy Chinese industrialization, much like Western nations are responsible for keeping India's toxic and hazardous ship-breaking yards afloat. We buy cheap Chinese goods and turn a blind eye to the rape that Chinese farms and natural resources endure for our benefit.

So we can blame ourselves, or blame China herself for selling out for the gain of a few rich Chinese businessmen connected to the Party, but you can't blame Japan, the regional economic and (by extension of the US) military hegemon for not holding China's hand.

more like leave the planet which can take care of itself to the same pattern that it has been in for millions of years alone,
or screw over our economy and keep our people in poverty.
i dont think you realie that volcanoes in one year produce 20 times the amount of co2 and sulfur as compared to humans. Do we need them to also sign up for co2 credits?

as already said, how can you think japan is a selfish nation? In my view, they are doing more than enough and helping its neighbors and many of these problems. It is no surprise japan is leading the hybrid car technology.

Chinese pollution blows over Japan all the time, it's in their best interest to encourage China to clean up its act. However, it is not their responsibility.

more like leave the planet which can take care of itself to the same pattern that it has been in for millions of years alone,

The planet certainly can look after itself. And it'll do so by making the environment completely hostile to humans, the main source of the problem. Then, after the humans have been eradicated, the planet will have some peace at last.

Unfortunately, those humans who are trying hard to mend their ways (those who support the Kyoto treaty) are going to be eliminated along with the thoughtless, selfish, short-sighted ones who say their economy is more important than the survival of the human race.
