"The number of crimes committed by girls in England and Wales has gone up by 25% in three years, according to figures.

The Youth Justice Board says girls committed 59,000 offences in 2006-07 - up 12,000 on 2003-4 but still far less crime than that committed by boys.

There were significant increases in minor assaults, robberies, public order offences and criminal damage.

Overall, there has been a 2% reduction in crimes committed by boys over the same period, the statistics show.

The total number of offences by those aged between 10 and 17 which led to police or court action was just over 295,000 - down from more than 301,000 in 2005-06, but still higher than three years ago.";

Personally, i'm pretty ashamed of some of my fellow women in society. I look down greatly upon women committing violent acts in particular against men- i know some may disagree with me on this, but i think women beating up men is even worse than men beating up women (because they know the man won't hit back because society has taught him not to, so the woman is completely abusing his better ethics etc, also i would imagine that it is particularly soul destroying to a man's ego/image and confidence to be beaten up by a women etc).

But i think the increasingly problem with female crime is a cultural one. I think too many people turn a blind eye to thuggish behavior amongst women (and although i hate to stereotype, such thuggish women tend to be of the lower class i.e. like chav's), and this only allows such groups of women to encourage and peer pressure their bad behavior onto other women.
I know of a group of women around my age who are friends with each other (although i certainly wouldn't call them a friend of mine) who fight each other for fun and have been known in town to beat up men- unfortunately they frequent a favorite pub of mine enough for me to know this to be true. They are fat and ugly and i hate it when they come to my fav pub in town since they always act so thuggish and rowdy, trying to pull guys like they are men and binge drinking all the time etc.
I don't get why such girls want to act this way? Its so unattractive! I mean, i'm all for gender equality and womens rights and stuff, but seriously, these women behave in a way that you would expect drunk male football hooligans would. This group of girls all encourage their unattractive behavior amongst themselves.
But these sorts of groups of women/girls are becoming ever so more common now days, personally i view them as an insult to the rest of us that actually try to act decently, attractively and intelligently.

With what to do about the violent and criminal girl/woman thing though, its a deep problem and it would need to be tackled from many angles (since i believe its a sort of cultural thing thats happening in society right now). I think the government could make a start in encouraging more positive role models for women and girls to aspire to in society- like actually promoting better celebrities and models, like ones which aren't renowned for being bimbo's which sleep around and are incredibly shallow, materialistic, egotistic and have been known to be violent and go binge drinking etc. There are too many celebrities (both male and female alike) who are famous for pretty much bugger all and who are hardly positive role models.
I also certainly think that people should be punished the same, regardless of their race, gender, religion etc- i've noticed that women often get lighter punishments for crimes in comparison to men though (although i'd have to say that all criminals aren't punished enough for their crimes in general in society now days), and this should not be the case.

What do you think about the increasingly problem with female crime and what can be done to tackle it etc?

Curious. The same thing seems to be happening worldwide. It's certainly the case in Canada. And I agree with everything you say.

What should be done?

I may be a "geezer" - but I have always been a "sexual egalitarian" - just ask my wife ("she who must be obeyed", but isn't, always ..... !)

Treat the gals as we have always treated the guys. "Commit the crime ... and do the time." People are people, male or female. If you break the law or act like a jackass - I don't give a damn if your male or female, I don't want you around. No 'special treatment' just because you're female. You want to show everybody that you're the equal of a male by misbehaving just like one - OK, go ahead - but I'll smack you around the head just like I would smack him.

... and please don't cry in court ... that's "dirty pool"! It doesn't work these days.

Good thread, troublesome topic.

Best Regards,

All braun and no brains...

Perhaps women should be given more laborious activities. It is obvious that women want to exert their physical capabilities. There is a feeling of strength and self pride that is healthy and which women today enjoy. Perhaps these girls would be well off if such sports as fencing and karate were more available within their income bracket. Free community clubs would be a great idea.

I agree that role models are important... but they are also controversial for young women who want to rebel against conformity. Public education is key.

I am glad that I am living in Japan. Here, there are just too many people. So one has no choice but to become fluid and flexible, so as not to tumble and fall over everyone. There is a certain comportment that one adapts to in a public environment. If that public environment is brusque and rigid, than the people will adopt those kinds of actions. Common knowledge/sense is the key, I believe.

Remember, though, that we are all different and have different drives. There is one of every kind everywhere you go (different strokes for different folks). There is also violence every where you go, though not of the same caliber.

Is there a possibility for you to petition free physical activities of some sort in your community for such women who desire this sort of adrenalin rush? I know that breaking wood and having competitions of brute force can be fun.

This is the dark side of the womans liberation movement !!
They need more rules and genuine ideals !😌

I agree women should be punished just the same as guys- its pointless having female rights when it still makes us unequal to men, IMHO the point of having rights is so that we can all have genuine honest equality in society, including equal punishment for crime regardless of sex, race, gender etc.

The results of two different trends coming together.
Genders behaving more alike.
And the increasing imoralization of the youth.

No time for more now, I'll post more later. ;)

Holy crap. Female crime rates spiking while men crime rates drop?

I knew women were cold and merciless, but in more of a psychological, mental way.

I guess the only thing I can say is that it's surprising.

Also, double standards, anyone?

How about co-ed prisons?
They want full equality, they can have it.
Oh wait, nevermind. It just occurred to me that that'd be WAY too barbaric, the men would obviously suffer immensely through all the nagging and arguing.

Ahahaha, that reminds me of hobo fights, now thats co-ed, when they go at each other 2v2 or more.

BakaKanadajin!!!!!!!! I guess we all get lazy sometimes and forget what we are doing and saying. It is too easy to just act. We don't consider the consequences. And when you live in a free and privileged society it is even easier to forget about the other people around you. We forget that sometimes, the law can be applied to people: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

As for women naging all the time, this may be true in some cases, but it is not barbaric... hehe. That was an overstatement.

I agree that with freedom comes responsibility, but Frank Herbert has said something very interesting in his book, Dune.

"The way the mind will lean under stress is strongly influenced by training" - a Bene Gesserit axiom.

We have to learn how to take responsibility for our actions. We need experience and we need a strong hand to guide us. Can we stand still and strong dunring a wild storm? Can we bend like the seaweed in the water of a stream?

Perhaps that's what scouts and guides are for. I strongly believe that this is the mark of public education!

Stop being such a load of sexist twats- you do realize that i'm a woman and that your sexist stereotyped comments are very offensive to me (and all the women here)? How about you just jokingly throw in a few negative black racist stereotypes while you're at it? My respect for you guys has gone down so much since reading your idiotic comments.

I wash my hands, as I wasn't strictly talking about women, I was talking about hobos, and that includes man too. Still, you may feel insulted as a human.

Um, well, really, I could be called an equalist... fact is, that im kinda bored of the stupidity of men and women alike. Both sexes have a handful of traits that are made of 100% pure, genuine annoyance. :D

At thats fair enough, i think you're more of a realist in that sense, both genders have their fair share of idiots and bimbo's etc.

Who was the comedian who said, "Chivalry is dead. And women killed it!"

I agree with those who stated that men and women should be treated the same when they act like idiots. Unfortunately, in any population of large enough size, there will always be those who act not "on the public's behalf". I think that when they behave that way, they should have to deal with the consequences of said actions.

I agree that trying to get sympathy after the fact by showing crocodile tears or other means is dispicable, and I tend to lose all respect for people who act in full cognizance of what they are doing and feign ignorance or whatever later, be they men or women.

Apparently my attempt at light humour set the cat amongst the pigeons while I was gone. Please note, this was clearly meant as a joke.

Furthermore I am quite aware that co-ed anything (especially a prison) does not work in most cases due to the irony of how extremely limiting 'equality' really is.

That being said, what seriousness there was in my post would, I think, side with the camp stating more serious punishment and deterrent is in order to thwart any increasing trends towards crime among females. In conjunction with that, however, there has to be an alternative. Offering them bad and worse is much less effective than offering them worse and great. The 'great' would be to increase after-school programs, educate parents on the effects of their parenting (positive & negative) and so on.

This is something Toronto is experiencing right now as our young people turn increasingly to glorified visions of crime and gang activity. We're sliding from a once safe and happy city into the throes of an American-style inner-city environment. We're considering everything from black-focused schools (and that's not my idea, that's the government reacting to the demographic, so please don't jump down my throat) to increased after-school programs to police presence/outreach within schools, and of course there's always the ever popular debate on our Young Offender's Act.

Have you all seen the beating that was administered by a group of girls in Florida (?) on another girl because "she was talking trash"? There were I believe 6 girls (13-17?) and two boys (17-18) who lured a "friend" to one of their houses. Then, the 6 girls took turns beating the hell out of the one girl. At one point, the victim was knocked unconscious. She suffered permanent damage to one eye and one ear and was in the hospital for days. The attackers actually taped the beating and posted it on YouTube, MySpace, etc.! This happened about 3-4 weeks ago and was all over U.S. news and TV shows. I don't know what happened to the attackers other than they were looking at facing trial as adults.

Oops...I think "girl" crime should be punished/handled the same as "boy" crime. If you're old enough/man enough to do the crime, you should be ready to do the time.

This is not a new thing for me. Because she is human same like us. I don't feel ever any different between male and female. Just change sex and thing else !

OK Dude ... your humour wasn't lost on all of us!

(Now ... excuse us folks, a little Canadian "těte a těte" ... just for a line or two ...):

I agree with your assessment of Toronto - I lived nearby for almost twenty years; it was always "Toronto the Good". But not now.

We have the same problem here in Vancouver (never "Vancouver the Good"!); carrying a gun is, apparently,"fashionable" among today's youth!

(OK ... back on topic ....)

But ... like so many other cities around the world ... many, indeed a growing number, of the miscreants are female!

Your mention of the Canadian "Young Offenders Act" interests me - it must be changed.

For the uninformed, this act provides that, if your age is 17 or under, you're not liable to be sentenced to more than three years of imprisonment, your name will not be divulged to the public ... and you'll probably get away with a good talking to, with counselling .... even if you've just committed cold-blooded murder! Steal a car? You might even be able to steal another one tomorrow ... after you've left the courtroom!

Do similiar provisions exist in other countries? (I hope not!)

There you go, kids (under 17)! Come to Canada and commit a crime! ... it's no big deal!

Girls, of course (:erm:) ... frequently, even seem to get special treatment within this parameter!

Let us not look to the criminal -let us also look to the judiciary!

Many conversations are just like competition that rarely leads to discovery on each side. Instead of trying to learn what they saying what's the experice is behind their remarks. What we can learn about them

I just think it would be so awkward to be held up by a female gang, or attacked by a female -.- but I guess getting stabbed by a guy or a girl hurts the same (depending on strength of thrust and point of penetration of course)

How should female criminals be treated? Same as guys for the most part. One of the scariest things for a guy can be not when someone attacking or going after you is a muscle-bound man, but when it is a woman, because you know there is going to be a lot of bias there.

So I say there needs to be more equality with women in regards to crime. Same prison courtyard as the men would get. I would like to make a few suggestions.

1. Hose down the courtyard dirt into a slick mud. This allows for keeping the grounds litter free and washing away trash and contaminants.

2. Conjugal visits in clear view of everyone including the general public. Safety is important, and they need to be kept close watch on both for others and their own safety.

3. Separate age groups, level of beauty, and sexual orientation into the same groups for easier selection of monitoring. Gangs tend to form in prisons based on such issues so for safety this should be done for women especially.

4. No underwear allowed and skirts only. Underwear can be used to smuggle in illegal goods, same with normal pants.

5. Male only guards, job applications open to all. Female guards can be less physically strong and in a prison setting this can be just too dangerous.

6. Cavity searches by female inspectors of college age only in full view of all. It would be inappropriate to give men this job, but it is critical that it is conducted in front of all for quality assurance and to make sure nothing is snuck around.

7. Solitary confinement during periods and PMS for the safety of everyone in proximity. This should actually be enacted world wide outside of prisons in my opinion.

I think these steps are critical for making adjustments to female offenders if they must be imprisoned.
