How much do you drink?

What's a "unit" in alcoholic drinks? I've never heard that before. :?

It's defined in the original post:

Tsuyoiko said:
One unit is half a pint of 4% beer, a small glass of wine or a single measure of spirits.

Although I admit that "small glass" is relative, and I'm not sure what "a single measure of spirits" is either...

[Edit] I just realized that a single measure of spirits is probably a shot. But then that begs the question of what proof we're talking here. A shot of whiskey (80 proof) and a shot of Everclear (190 proof) are two pretty different things.

The most I ever drank in one night was 25 shots in one hour in Thailand. A group of us did it because the bar had this system that if you did it you got a t-shirt and your name on a plaque on the wall. I went there 2 years ago and the plaque is still there. It cost us $10 each. Pretty damn stupid huh?

I just drunk a can of cider in the park during my lunch break to celebrate that the sun is out. It was well lush.

I once drank a bottle of Bell's whiskey while watching The Doors at home once. Strange thing is that I didn't suffer much from it. When the film ended is when I realised I had emptied the bottle.

I usally drink 6-8 beers ,when I go out but at the moment I am trying to lose weight so I'm not drinking at all.
The worst experience I had with alcohol was ,when I drank toooooo much 9 Sambuka 0,2cl, 12 Jack-Daniels 0,2cl,4 Licher Pils 500ml.....
I thought I would have to die all night long xD

Everclear... doesn't it have like 95% of alcohol in it? I heard it's usually used for agricultural purposes in the West but popular among hillbillies.

I used to drink too much when I was younger. One time, I ended up yelling at a few Pakistanis, like "She! Here!" in the middle of Shibuya because they were trying to get my friend in their car.

I usually only drink on the weekends and on special occasions. I would say no more than 2 glasses of wine per week. Yes very little but when I do drink if I drink up to half a bottle I am drunk, this happens when I am in a social situation.
:romance: :gulp:

My husband likes it when I am drunk; he says I am adorable and happy when I am drunk.😊

I don't like beer (too bitter) spirits (too strong) whiskey (too strong), but I like white and red wines, and bailey and this Italian lemon alcohol drinks for appetizer called "crema di Limonce."

Then my hometown might qualify. It is a small city of 22 000 people near the panhandle of Alaska, there's not much for young people to do there, thus do young people have a lot of house parties, and teenage mother's abound.

Everclear is illegal, but it's easy to obtain in Hyder, Alaska. Every year we have a few teenagers that end up in the hospital as a result of Everclear consumption. We have also had a few deaths over the years.

That reminds me of my trip to Ireland a few years back! I wanted to order a "Snakebite and Black" in a pub.. It's like a mix drink, half a pint of cider, half a pint of lager and a bit of black current syrup. Anyways, so I got to the pub and ordered a pint of Snakebite, then the dear old bartender said I couldn't have one!
"What?"
"It's illegal."
So I was kinda confused, then he went on: "I can give you the cider, I can give you the lager, but I can't mix it for you."
Even more confusion.
"Somebody killed himself drinking that stuff a few years back."
Oh that explains it.. But wait! I said:
"People drink themselves to death everyday drinking whiskey or vodka, why isn't that illegal?"
Then this old bloke sitting at the bar turned to me and said:
"Welcome to Ireland."

Hilarious!! I ordered a Guinness instead.

Hahahaha, that's a funny story! :D:D

That reminds me of when I went to my cousin's wedding in Dallas. My friend went up to the bar and said, "give me five shots of Maker's Mark." The bartender said he couldn't do shots, so my friend said "alright, then give me five Maker's Mark and Cokes, hold the Coke." Apparently there was no rule against that, because the bartender gave them to him! Plus they were double shots! I still don't get that policy...

"Units"?

That's a new one on me...

I don't really drink on a regular basis--but I can but away quite a bit given the opportunity. I'm not sure what the most I've ever had was, maybe it was that time I was at a neighbors party playing pool in the backyard and drinking shots of tequilla. Three of us ended up finishing off two bottles--I hear they asked about me afterwards to see if I was ok. I can't imagine why they were worried, I didn't show any effects from it--other than my game going down the toilet.

Actually, I think the (large) bottle of rum I had last new years tops that one, but I'm not sure.

A few weeks I went to a friends birthday party at a hostess bar. It was a Whiskey nomi hodai and that was a rough night. All you can drink whiskey is a very, very bad thing.

Sambuka xD
Do you light it, then put it out and drink it? Another one is to light it, put it out immediately with your hand over the glass. Drink it in one and then put your hand over the empty glass as quick as possible. You then take a straw and suck up the fumes that have remained in the glass.
Don't drink it myself, as I can't stand the stuff.

I've tried lighting sambuka on fire in my mouth. I forget how it's done exactly, only that there's also cinnamon involved. The cinnamon sparkles, and together with sambuka, leaves a pleasant taste in the mouth.

I absolutly love it^^

I love to drink but the problem is I get drunk easily.
More I get drunk, the faster I drink up my drinks and next day I always feel sick.

My favorites are sweet liqueurs on the rocks; AMARETTO DISARONNO, GALLIANO, Tia Maria, Baileys, MOZART, GODIVA... goes on and on.

and besides liqueurs, i like drinking beers at baseball park while watching Tigers. It tastes so good when they're wining. xD

I'm surprised a lot of people haven't heard of units. It's something we hear a lot here - women are recommended to drink no more than 3 units a day, 4 for men. For wine, a small glass is 175 ml and spirits means typical 40% spirits, like vodka, gin or whisky.

When I was too young to drink we used to go to a snooker club on Saturday nights with the intention of getting blind drunk. Before we went we would go to Kwik Save and buy 2 litres of cider and a half bottle of vodka. We would drink some of the cider and pour the vodka into it, then drink the mixture - we called it 'sidecar'. It would make us very drunk for a couple of quid each. If it was someone's birthday, the bar used to do 'across the optics' in a pint glass for a fiver. I'm glad I never went there on my birthday! Looking back, it's worrying that no-one ever asked us for ID.

The most drunk I have ever been is when I went to a wine tasting after finishing university. I have no idea how much I drank but it must have been at least a couple of bottles of wine. I can only remember brief flashes of the whole evening. I walked into a door on my way out and fell over in the car park. I know I was playing solitaire in my head but saying it out loud, like 'black king, red queen, black jack'. I was shouting at my next door neighbour not to blow me up because I thought he looked like someone from the IRA. I fell asleep on the toilet. I was still drunk the next day, and got a hangover on the third day. I didn't drink for months after I was so ashamed.

Haha - drink can do some terrible things.
Sorry to laugh, but it is amazing how it can affect even the most reasonable people.

My sister's husband is one of the kindest, gentlest men I know, but on holiday in Portugal he had an drunken argument about football with a taxi driver, ended up calling him a 'portugese c*nt', and my sister had to drag him out of the taxi.

I might post my biggest drunken experience later, if I get time

Come on, why not, Glenn! Do share with us! xD
*pokes Glenn*

My drunken experience:
I was dancing in this club one night, I got so drunk that I couldn't even walk properly and apparently fell down from a little stage that's about 2 meter's high, and cracked one of my ribs.

That night, I think I had a few bottle of corona, some cocktails like Long Island Iced Tea, and silly me I tried a Bloody Mary mixed with Spirytus.
It was a real nightmare. xD

It really depends, like this week was my goodbye week so I have drunk around 20 beers this week.

But normally I only drink maybe 10 beers a month, which I think is perfect for myself.

I have to think about my belly haha, especially when I am not working out such as the last months.

No, really, I'd rather not. It's too embarrassing. I think I'd have to be drunk to post it.

Interesting stories indeed !! And oh, how so many of them sound so frightfully familiar. But, I'd have to admit, I've had some good ones too, and the best were all over there in good ole Tucson, Arizona, US of A.

At the moment, I guess I drink about 12~16 units a week. (still don't have a very clear pic of that quantity in my mind, somehow) I have about 250 ml of red wine almost every night--one that has prune in it for extra polyphenol (sp?). On the weekends, depending on how hard-headed the little lady's being, I drink four 350 ml of beer.

For BBQ parties I usually put away a couple of six-packs of beer.

I have not lost memory in a long, long time; and have done that only 5~6 times in my whole life--although I have drunk a lot pretty much all along up until these past 12 years or so. (drinking has inspired two of my songs--'Gin Bottle Blues' and 'Trouble' and plays a balancing role in 'Swamp Boggling Blues')

Anyway, balance is the thing, I feel. Mycernius (I think it was) made it back to (and into) his tent, in the dark, in an unknown land while I made it back to my hotel room in an unknown city (Miami, Florida)--a very, very stupid thing, yes I know. I recall sleeping in the van until early in the morning (maybe 3 or 4 am) and I recall putting on my turn signal when it appeared that I was changing lanes again...[don't try this at home]

and closing with a quote from Sonny Boy Williamson: Moonshine make you throw dice, make you wanna fight, lying when you go home, 'nd you can't treat your wife right...moonshine make you think the policeman's a little delivery boy, moonshine make you think street cars're little child'rn play toys, and you've been drinking moonshine...
