I thought I drank too much until I watched Booze Britain on Saturday. This gang of girls were going for a night out in Birmingham. Before they even left the house they drank 16 units each. That's well over half a bottle of vodka, or nearly two bottles of wine. They took a limo, where they drank another 10 units each. By this point one of them was legless and went home, but more worryingly, the other five were just a bit merry. I couldn't stand to watch any more, so I don't know how much they drank after they actually got to Birmingham, but it made me realise I don't drink so much after all!

I drink about 15 units in an average week, a bit more if we have a bottle of whisky in, or it is someone's birthday. The most I will drink in one sitting is 3 drinks, so about 6 units. On Christmas Day I will probably drink about 12 units over the course of the day, most of it with food.

How about you (if you dare own up!)? One unit is half a pint of 4% beer, a small glass of wine or a single measure of spirits.

I drink like a chimney and smoke like a fish, or something.

I think I drink too much. Not binge-drinking, but regularly. I definately drink more than the recommended units.

Cheers !

I drink no more than 12 beers a week...but usually more like 6 a week. I only drink on my days off.

When I was a bit younger though I would get a little more wild. I did a lot of vodka, whiskey, a lot of different shots, and even made my own mash sometimes.

Pepsi man.

I had my last drink in 1971. I was in the Navy and got stuck being the Chaplain's Yoeman my last year in a 4 year hitch. By the time I set next to him for a year, I quit drinking, smoking, and swearing; thank God he didn't make me give up sex!

Uncle Frank

😊

I drink a fifth of scotch about every month to month and a half.

Up until two weeks ago, I drank a couple tall cans everyday. The cost, the loss of sleep, and the inability to stop smoking while having a beer all motivated me to quit.
I read that, since I am technically a very strong drinker (I can easily put 12-15 beers away in one night), and I don't ever get sick or hungover (just very tired from lack of sleep), and I have never had a memory lapse (well actually just once, the 2nd time drinking, we got into brandy and pot), I am at particular risk of becoming an alcoholic, if I'm not already.

I also read that for a fit, lean, healthy person, there is no health benefit to be had from moderate drinking (only if one is out of shape, has a bad diet, etc). Wine is also not a very efficient way of getting the heart healthy phytochemicals. Calorie for calorie, fruit, vegetables, and nuts do better than wine.

If others can drink and feel in control of their lives, all the power to them. I just couldn't do what I wanted while drinking, so gave it up.

I once drank 17 units on, one and a half hour....... I don't remember anything. Couldn't say how fun it was..... and that is the only time i drank so much.... but I enjoy a good Tuborg once In a while and also Jack Daniels, a Jameson is also very good. But I drink at parties.... But there isn't anything better like a cold Tuborg classic after a hard day work.....

I used to drink a lot more than I do lately. The past half year orso I drink about 5 "units" (what a weird way to talk about something as interesting as alcoholic drinks) a week I think. When I go out I drink waaay too much, except when I am the designated driver, in which case I only drink a *bit* too much. 😊
Anyways, I used to work as manager of a liquor store, so I do love drinking. Nothing beats a good glass of wine with some toasts and cheese while watching a movie, or a good glass of Whiskey after dinner.. And ofcourse beer while watching football!!

What's a "unit" in alcoholic drinks? I've never heard that before. :?

For me, a 350ml can of "can chu-hi" is enough for me!

Of course, I enjoy an occasional glass of good wine or beer! I generally don't drink hard liquor but love Amontillado!

The total amount of alcohol I've consumed so far in my 27 years of life is less than a litre...

I'm still at an age where drinking every weekend is fun for me, so I probably put away about 16 units or so (around 8 or 9 pints) on an average Friday/Saturday night. I rarely do liquor or mixed drinks, favoring by far the taste and feel of a good beer. I have a pretty low tolerance, due to a combination of factors including being an asian without the proper enzymes to break down alcohol, rarely eating much before drinking (I get way too full) and only drinking once or twice a week. The best thing about a low tolerance: small tabs at bars.

I would drink small shots of sake on certain days. I don't drink constantly like a ritual, its bad.

On rare occasions. I belong to a fraternal group that has two camping trips per year (Spring and Fall) and we usually have Brandy Alexanders at camp.

I drink a few beers a month, when I go somewhere with friends. Last time (also first) time I got stoned drunk was 4 years ago, and I want to keep it like that. Mixing is bad! I'm not much of a liquor man, I don't like wine either. Maybe when I'm older? I'm not one of those kids that get drunk senseless every week on parties and think they're cool.

The only strong liquor I get is from a cocktail once in a while (read once in a few months), when I really feel like it. :)

Well, I have only had alcohol about once every year for the past few years. Crazy, huh?

The last time I had alcohol was at a wedding back in November, and I got drunk off my arse. It was also the very first time I had ever thrown up from being drunk. I don't know how I made it to 29 without doing that.

I've been wanting to drink more lately, though. My birthday's coming up. I think I'll tie one on... :p

I used to say the same thing as well when I was 23. The last time I got too drunk that I couldn't remember was in Poland in 1998. I was impressed when I woke up in the morning. I had managed to get across a dark field in the middle of nowhere, in a foreign country and into my tent. Word of advice, don't match the Poles drink for drink.
Nowadays maybe a couple bottle of beer on saturdays and a couple of glasses of wine on sundays, bith with my dinner. I might have to occassional tipple during the week, but as I have to get up early I don't really like drinking during the week.

I guess a unit is "a drink". So it could be a beer, wine, whisky, whatever.

But Chuu-hi!! I miss that.. Funny that it is often cheaper than beer, while it could have a higher percentage of alcohol (unthinkable in Holland). Do you drink Syoutyuu too Epigene? I love it! My favorite is Torikai (窶卍ケナス窶?, it's from Kumamoto I think.

I'm trying to cut back recently, but since I discovered Nomi Hodai my beer consumption went waaaaay up.

Well, let's see, I had my first beer in 1977, and it was also my last because I hated the stuff and barely finished the can. UGH!! How on earth can people chug that awful tasting stuff? I've never touched spirits, but I did have a glass of champagne with some friends while ringing in the new year back in 1997. Never saw the appeal of alcohol, so I don't bother with it. However, I downed nearly two quarts of grape Kool-Aid while watching game six of the Mavs-Suns game Saturday night. Not one of my prouder moments.

:D

Shochu has become so popular, it's expensive and the real thing has become hard to find (I mean imo-jochu).
I'm not very picky, so the canned stuff is good enough--especially after taking a bath on a summer night! :gulp:
I'm addicted to shochu-wari with "shiikwaasaa" (Okinawan citrus fruit) juice. 👍

i used to drink tell i passed out every time i drank. Ive had a few real bad times but 1 time i was drinking an all you can drink karaoke and well i ended up doing some 151 shots and slaming a pitcher of beer. worst night ever. it was the 1 time that i could not remember and my body would not react to what i wanted it to do. then the poison set in and i ended up puking everything in my stomach and then some, to the point where i was vomiting blood. now i would like to think that ive grew up a bit and about once a week i will have a beer maybe 2 before going to bed and most times when i go out i am the DD or atleast the person who makes sure the rest dont get stupid.

I didn't think that was physically possible.....

oh it is. but i pitty the person who trys it. i can do 4-5 shots of 151 and be ok im used to it. It was just the pure amount of the pitcher when it hit my blood stream the ended my night. oh to young and dumb

Lol I thought he did that many shots too at first. But then I realized Carlson's probably talking about Bacardi 151. The most shots ive done at once was 25 shots of vodka in 2 hours. biggest mistake ive ever made!
