I was referred here by Pachipro, a very nice gentleman who found my thread about Sophia University on ****edGaijin. I am hoping people are a bit more optimistic and cheerful on this forum, as the FG's tend to be bitter and extremely confrontational. I am excited about heading back to Japan regardless of how many people reitterate the "negatives." If Pachipro's character is any indication of others' on this site, I'm sure that my stay will be very enjoyable 
First off, I'm a 20-year-old La Salle University student. I major in journalism with a dual minor in Leadership & Global Understanding and Japanese. As a kid, I had a best friend who was half Japanese, and I developed a passion for all things "J" at a really young age. I finally got a chance to experience Japan firsthand through a La Salle travel study course centered on the causes and results of Japan's Bubble Economy. We traveled all over the place: Kyoto , Kobe, Hiroshima, Miyajima Island, Shodoshima Island, and of course, Tokyo. My two weeks in Japan were undoubtedly the best two weeks of my life, and by the end of the trip I had realized my calling.
I've applied to Sophia University's faculty of Comparative Culture for the Spring 2007 semester. I find out January 30th (I'm rather hopeful after having visited Sophia and spent time with their director of International students, but cross your fingers for me anyway!) I plan to finish at Sophia, then enter JET or a private teaching contract for several years while freelancing and establishing a blog. After a few years, who knows? Maybe I'll drop a resume off at CNN, AP, BBC, Reuters, etc... That's the plan!
