generic "Less" in japanese

Hi Guys,
I know that もっと can be used as a one stop, more, further bigger when placed ahead a adjectives etc.
For example もっと早く quicker or earlier.
Is there a generic "less" modifier.
What would be the equivalent of less in Japanese.
If I wanted to say less political. Is there a 何何政治的
よろしくお願いします

さほど小さい not so small

さほど暑い not so hot
And is it common?

As in the explanation in the dictionary Mike-san provided, it MUST be used with the negative form.
さほど小さくない not so small
さほど暑くない not so hot

You can also use あまり～ない.

I've made a couple of sentences to practice how they are used.
The first is...
He's opinion is less critical.
彼の意見はさほど批判的ではありません。
The second one is....
According to the weather forecast todays temperature will not be as high as yesterday.
天気予報によると今日の気温は昨日よりあまり高くない。

～ほど…ない is used for comparison, not さほど/あまり.

気温 changes throughout the day, so it would more normally be phrased using あがる・あがらない
