@ aikawa - thease threads have no effect on MY opinion of gackt, I don't know about you other people. Thease threads just make me think about certain points (i.e gackt's age) thanks for bringing up that point that his spirit is that old. I makes more sense to me now why he says that is is so old. His spirit can be old but his body may not ^-^

anyway, I think it's more important for singers to sing well, looks are just something not that important, though of course, nowadays it's very important too, so it's good for him right?

I followed the whole thread, and I've been thinking about some posts where you guys manipulated your words to retort back, and I was thinking, "Hey, that's creative!"
Gackt is pretty. Get over it. For those who can't get over the fact that he is prettier than most girls (or men in some cases), I can only read what you have to say though the most common point is that he lies about his age. Okay, who here hasn't lied before? When he said he's 400 years old, obviously it was a joke, so why take it so seriously?
I do not know if he's a**hole in real life, but only those close to him know him for who he is, so who are we to say that he's a**hole? Maybe his so-called arrogant appearance is just a facade: an image, a mask to hide him from the world. I know arrogance doesn't sit well with most of us. Hell, even I don't tolerate arrogance, but some ppl have said I am arrogant but do they really know me before they judge me? The same case applies here, although we always tend to judge before knowing a person as humans.
I would have to agree that going for plastic surgery is indeed a Lil far-fetched because it makes him look fake and unrealistic. As if he's too perfect, he looks fake. The image does play an important part in the music industry these days, but it does help that Gackt is quite talented in music. If it helps (I got this info from my friend, I don't know how true it is, but if it's now, let me know.) he speaks many languages, so I guess you can't say he's a man of no substance.
The only singer I think has no substance is Britney spears (runs away from angry Britney fans). She can dance (which isn't that great IMHO), but she can't sing. yet, she sells. Why? Because she has big 'papayas' and she's pretty. Christina Aguilera's new image is indeed unpleasant to the eyes, and yes, I've heard she's got her 'papayas' enlarged, but she can sing, and she sells. So, the music industry is made up of these ppl so who can say Gackt is wrong? Plastic surgery is a thing of the past now, although some of us need time to accept it.

I really have no commentary for or against Gackt as I don窶冲 personally know him, nor do I know anything about him and the way in which he chooses to live his life. One man窶冱 meat is another窶冱 poison I suppose, however I do have one very intense objection to the above mentioned. That窶冱 a very ignorant statement, but you can think what you want. In any case it窶冱 not indigenous for a great number of Orients (men) to have a lot of body hair. I am saying that genetically Japanese men are commonly *not* hairy. If your opinion was directed to all men in general I窶囘 say you窶决e a bit obsolete and narrow minded then. I don窶冲 mean to offend you but blatant remarks like that are irritating and offensive, then again that窶冱 my opinion.

First of all Clay is quite phony and we best not speak of him in a J-pop forum, and second EVERYONE famous has had all the things you speak of CIMA and much much more, so it's really no suprise. That's why just about EVERYONE famous is hot -.-

A rare thing to read people actually voicing an opinion about Gackt other than mindless devotion. I agree with the comparison of Gackt and Micheal Jackson. That is exactly how a friend of mine who lives in Japan described Gackt's fame in Japan. It'll be interesting to see if he ages gracefully or lets his excentricitys make him a joke when he turns 40, in ten years.
I think the comparison "Gackt=Micheal Jackson" is too exaggerated... what part of Gackt is like Micheal Jackson? If you talk about his plastic surgeries, then many stars must have to be like MJ. If you talk about his fame... you think everyone has the same taste? Of course there are anti-gackt-fans, as we clearly can see in this thread. And if ONE person in japan tells, wht gackts fame in japan is like, then I hardly can believe him, sorry.

It's really very pointless to compare artists to other artists (unless you're looking at rap, because it's all alike) unless the artists are one and the same. Each one is unique and individual in even the most subtle of ways. I have yet to see someone really support their hatred of gackt or any other Japanese singer (Haido being one of them). When someone comes up with a good arguement let me know.

He was talking about MJ's King of Pop fame, and his fan base at the height of his career. Michael Jackson mania was not just limited to the US.
At 30 MJ's career was much like Gackt's, amazing. And just like Gackt he was known for being rather 'eccentric', not the over the top news stories of today.
Negative controversy surrounding that excentricity didn't begin till he was almost 40. If you read my post it also says: It'll be interesting to see if he(Gackt) ages gracefully or lets his excentricitys make him a joke when he turns 40, in ten years. As in he is not where MJ is today.

i heard gackt first and fell in love with his voice and ability to play the piano. it was a long time before i ever saw a picture of him. to be truthful, the first were his malice mizer days when he was blond and i wasn't a big fan at all. thought the blond made him look sickly. but than i saw later pictures, especially when his was that reddish, copper color, and was like hot damn! but even if you don't think he's good looking one must at least appreciate the fact that the man is a wondeful singer. everyone is entitled to an opinion...

In hip hop, there is a strong diversity amongst individual artists. What you claim to be all that is the same is just what is promoted in the mainstream, and even that has its 'subtle differences' as you brought up.

I agree with Howabe, This thread is becoming *almost* too long....So what? Gackt is hot or not. Quite frankly, there's a lot better things to do than talk about Gackt.

(He said he just liked the number.) I view it as Hyde's fascination of religious icons in the west, like the fascination towards samurai /bushido by the west.
However, I do not think the naming of the album or his choice of accessories was just a ploy to take his image into another direction. Checking on centigrade-j briefly, I could find at least three songs from L'Arc~en~ciel (the band Hyde belongs to) that have some association with the devil -- Shout at the Devil, Route 666 and Sell my Soul. The songs were released well before Hyde's solo days. It shows his early interest in the area. Perhaps you can judge his understanding of it by his lyrics?
