Pardon me if I am bringing up past topic points, I can see this thread is rather old, but it is an active thread... I thought I'd put my two cents in for the over all, if non of you mind of course. Please do ignore this if you feel the need to do so.
First and foremost, I am an avid fan of Gackt's, so you may let that guide your thoughts for the rest of my post if you so desire. Regardless of if his photographed appearance matches his real life persona, I personally find Gackt greatly attractive. Attraction, by definition, does fully imply an interest in physical appearance either. I myself originally fell in love with Gackt for his beautiful voice and shear talent. (I can go on and on about that so I'll cut myself short here.)
In regards to his captured image being altered via photoshop (or similar), I am sure this is true.
Nearly every image in today's media is changed in some way be that a minor alteration or a major one. I'm sure by now nearly everyone has seen Dove's campaign marketing... If not be sure to look it up on YouTube or some similar website.
If he has altered himself physically through cosmetic procedures, isn't that his own business? I'm sure he was very pressured by the media to look his best, and clearly it hasn't hurt his sales. Appearance matters to many, and I admit fully that I probably wouldn't be as much of a die-hard fan today if I hadn't liked his looks. Now that I think about it though, that way of thinking is rather vain, and I'm making a personal vow to like Gackt's appearance no matter where it goes from here.
Another way of thinking is this:
Think of Gackt as a piece of art.
Art is critiqued constantly. Some find it stunning, while other's find it appalling, and of course there are many degrees of difference in each person's view.
That's really why I like him so much... It's because I am able to see him in that light. He's human. He isn't perfect, as no human is. However, his photographs can change into something near perfect. It's wonderful. I love looking at the way he chooses to present himself. Those photographs are beautiful each in their own way. They make me happy. Gackt's a smart guy, he likes to keep his Dears happy. I can only hope he's happy too...
In closing, I find the term "ugly" to be relative to one's own opinion of "beauty". Everyone's eyes work differently too. We are unique creatures, and there are many reasons rolled into one that cause attraction or distain. There are so many ways to express these feelings, and I'd think it impossible to honestly agree or disagree with any of these opinions. Think about that.

I never heard that! He's beautiful..But i like him better in Malice mizer..he seems to be less bastardly. but either way he's still sexy.
