flaws of statistical thinking
I thought this was great
So much of what we see (at least what I see in the US, but elsewhere as well) where people continue to use statistics to qualify or quantify their arguments or opinions...so many times I have heard:
"Well, there are some studies that have shown that 50% of Americans are...."
or
"I've read that 35% of all Japanese women are..."
or
"There are statistics that show that..."
but when you ask them, "Ok, where is the source of those statistics?" They either cannot tell you, or they quote a study that is later proven as biased towards a particular special interest group, or advertisement agency, or political spin group, and is neither scientific nor unbiased. Yet these people always use these statistics as the gospel, and clutter their minds as if they are quoting the truth, rather than do some actual research into the matter to make their opinions really authoritative. Lazy thinkers that rely heavily on statistics to prove their points really do injustice to all free thinking people of the world...
