Well I wasn't merely aiming for "deep" but rather a phrase or term of some sort indicating a deep thought or profound concept.
海のように深い愛情
From what I understood, in this simile "deep" affection is compared to the ocean. In this case I would assume that deep does not indicate depth as a measurement, but more of a figurative decription of extreme affection.
Hence I'm deducing that there may be a Japanese term relating to "deep thoughts" that can be used in a similar manner.
Sorta like saying "That man's thoughts are as deep as an ocean"
