Reading about it today, it seems that it
was a total eclipse. I'd thought it wasn't, because there was always still a light edge at the top of the moon, but apparently this is just a feature of that
type of total eclipse.
Last night made me think of people in long-ago times, and what the significance for them of seeing the moon disappear and turn red might have been. It really was powerful stuff! The sky was completely clear, and my beloved Orion was there looking glorious
