Doing own MA in Dojo

I'm quite curious about this, say if I went to Japan to stay with a host family and that host family happened to own a dojo, would it be disrespectful to ask if I could practice my own martial art at their dojo?

Not sure if many people would know this, but worth a shot anyway since all google does is give me sites wanting to sell Karate DVDs to me >.>

I don't know much about martial arts except judo (which my son studied in his junior high and high school years) but I'd suspect that the dojo is usually regarded "sacred" (depending on the form of martial art) and used for that specific practice. I think you'll have to accept refusal gracefully.

However, dojo comes in all forms (some simply being a gym), so the chances are not totally nil.

Best way to find out is to go for it, and even if you're met with a refusal, you will still rise in the estimation of your host, which is, well, quite a sneaky thing, if done consciously, but it is a win-win situation, no, in fact, it is a win-win x 2, situation, because either way, you will please your host. Or so I presume.
