Just on a general hobbies and stuff note, but do you collect anything in particular ?

I actively collect vintage/antique cards featuring Japanese life in the olden times, i also collect gem stones and kimono's too- i dunno if you can them a collection, but i also have masses of books and DVD's.
I used to collect fossils however i haven't added to this collection for a very long time now since i got most of the fossils i want and which are likely to become available to buy- i know its a sort of nerdy collection, but some my fav fossils have to include an ice age reindeer antler, ice age bison vertebra, 300million year old lung fish (yay an ancestor) and a slab of rock with a dinosaur footprint in it i found at a beach .

How about you guys/girls- do you collect anything in particular ?

My house is overflowing !

Ceramic cats, telephone pole insulators, steroscopic pictures,guns,books,DVD movies, 33 1/3 records, VHS movies, comic books, old magazines, antiques of all types, cassette music tapes, old fishing reels, stamps, old coins. Most of them are now stuck in boxes with the idea I will sell them some day. Like most hoarders , I can buy the stuff, but never bring myself to part with any of it. My house over floweth !!

I collect games consoles. The ones I don't play anymore are displayed in a glass cabinet. I would really like one of the branded cabinets they have at shops but I don't have room.

I collect books in the sense that even after I have read them I can't part with them. I haven't counted them, but at a book a week for nearly thirty years there must be over 1000.

I used to collect frogs but I grew out of that. They were cluttering up the house so much. I've gone a bit more minimal at home now.

I also have a collection of 1930s and 40s stuff, mainly china and glass. I don't add to it often but I treasure the pieces I have. I inherited some pieces from my nan, that I imagine were wedding presents - a bright green carnival glass fruit bowl, a lead crystal bon -bon jar and a green china cruet set with art deco decoration. My parents gave us a Japanese coffee set as a house-warming present. If you hold a cup up to the light you can see a geisha girl in the bottom. Most recently my husband bought me a silver dressing table set with pale gold lace on the back of the mirror and brushes. I love the style of that era, it's so eclectic and everything manages to be somehow simple and decadent at the same time.

Without ever having intended to do so, I have built up quite a little collection of antique cameras. I have about 20 or so at the moment, all purchased within the last year, and all of them see active use. They are mostly from the 1950s~1970s, but I have a couple from the 1940s and my oldest one was manufactured sometime between 1926 and 1932. Takes nice photos for being about 80 years old.

Another thing that i almost forgot about when i did this thread was that i also collect 50's & 60's pop jewelery like funky plastic bangles and rings etc .

I'm a bit of a hoarder like Frank. This is not easy to keep up if you are someone who moves every 1-2 years as I do, but I can't help it!

When I was in Japan I collected:

-old coins. I loved the fact that you could buy 1000 year old coins from the T'ang or Sung dynasty for about 100 yen each.

-Japanese baseball cards. I used to buy the Calbee chips with cards attached, loads of fun.

-Books about Japan. Basically I collect English language books about Japanese history, art, etc. I've got a nice little library on the go.

-Woodblock prints . I can't afford any of the expensive ones, but I love woodblock prints and used to snap up attractive bargain ones whenever I found them. Loads of fun whenever I went to the antique markets.

I'm heading back to Japan in October for the first time in 3 years and am looking forward to adding a bunch of junk to my collections while I'm there!

Im collecting warrior figures (only metallic, nothing plastic) and knives. The latter hobby is new, so I've way more figures, also, knives usually cost a lot more.
Other than that books... historical fiction, fantasy, and history. I don't really read anything else lol.

I collect old things that I find at the second hand store (I got an old Schick razor from, like, the 1900s in it's original case and one of those old fashioned hair clippers that you have to use manually) it's amazing what some people will just give away. I don't think they have much value but I like the fact that I'm keeping a piece of history intact.

I also collect books, I have a bookcase full and the top of my closet is overloaded to capacity.

I collect boring things, mostly cigarette holders from the 50's and 60's, old mechanical lighters and old match boxes, although the smell of a lit match is much nicer than the smell of a ignited lighter. =)

We collect glass dinnerware from the US Depression era and vintage (more than 20-25 years old) small kitchen appliances, especially coffee makers. We have more than 100 coffee makers and use most of them. We collect small amounts of other things, such as three sets of coffee-related salt & pepper shakers.

For me I used to collect baseball cards, I started in the 90's and over the years, I've hoarded 2,000 cards in 1 box, so I have 4 full boxes but now I am trying to get into collected swords, japanese and chinese swords in particular.

I don't have a collection of anything really. I like cook books and have quite a few, but I don't collect them per se. I do like to collect little bits of paper (pamphlets) etc. from my travels or tickets to concerts etc. I keep them with the pictures I have taken. It's not much, but I feel sentimental about the little things and find it hard to just throw them away.

Oh yeah i totally agree about Takashi Amano's tanks, did you know that the Amano shrimp was named in honor of him ? The fish forum which i am a long term member of have a big serious planted tanks crowd there who have some amazing tanks;

Yes I'm a member of TFF as well(although I've not posted in a while), I recognised your name but wasn't sure whether it was the same Tokis from TFF.

I have a few Amano shrimp, absolutely love them, they are so friendly, think I posted on TFF a little while ago a pic of them cleaning my hand.

I would agree with you George's tanks are on the same level as Amano's, he's just recently done a setup for Matt(PFK's editor) which they filmed(video is on the PFK site). I think George gave up his moderatorship a few months back to concentrate on other projects. Think llidjama(sp?) is the planted mod now, although the planted forum doesn't seem as active now, everyone's snook off to UKAPS(plant forum George & a few other's setup).

They are really friendly, everytime I put my hand in they dive on it and start pulling at my skin, it's very tickly, my cherry shrimp do it as well but they are a little more nervous of me because I haven't had them long so they aren't used to this giant hand invading there space
