Do chinese and japanese look exactly the same in the eyes or are they different? I think it's easy to tell in certain parts of China where they have got darker skin and stuff but apart from that is there?

I'm not being racist for all you people who seek fault in every little thing, it's just like asking is there a difference between french and english or african blacks and carribean blacks. In the hollywood representation of 'memoirs of a geisha', there are loads of chinese actors playing Japanese people and thats when this question occured to me.

I would suggest some do indeed look very very similar but some are quite different.

There are dark skin Japanese too.

I think if British can play French, Chinese can play Japanese or vice versa.

Similar but different. You get clues not only from the physique, but also from the way they dress themselves, gestures, expressions on their face, etc.

If you get to know many of them, you can make a guess quite accurately. I think the accuracy of my guessing is about 60 to 70%.

Some Chinese people do look very Japanese, or vice versa. So yes, similar in a way.

if they just stand still , you could tell from their legs ( Japanese are shorter and fatter while Chinese are straight and longer)

And the eyes of Japanese are smaller than that of China . Also ,Japanese had the small mouth while Chinese are wider.

If they speak , of course ,it's easy ...: Japanese - japanese and Chinese- chinese.

Then in their gestures I think the most important difference lies in the bowing . Japanese often bow bow and bow to show their good manners while Chinese don't .

There are really some differences.

Oh boy, is that WRONG ! There are more fat Chinese than Japanese IMHO. As from what I have seen in both countries. In China there is the 1 child law, and some of those kids are spoiled rotten and look like little buddha's :S

I think ranko was only talking about legs, not overall weight. We used to call it "Daikon" legs because a lot of Japanese have legs that look "stout" like the Japanese raddish.

Ohh, I see , thx Sabro :) But again, I don't think that's right, because there are so many Japanese girls with "Chicken legs" :D

Where I live in Pittsburgh, we have a lot of Asian students. We have a good deal of Chinese students, they are pretty isolated, they walk in packs, and keep to themselves at parties... one exclaimed that she thought we gave her fake beer, no, here we want you to get drunk, even in an innocent way, that's how we do it!

I did see one nihonjin in the street the other day when walking home, and I could tell it was nihonjin, from the facial structure, looks, but mostly, because he was dressed like all nihonjin "street jack" people dress... like a combination of something you found in the thrift store and Rudyard Kipling... ! okashii!!!... Chiense guys/Taiwanese/Korean guys etc, tend to pull off the hip-hop look I think a bit better than nihonjin too...

Hey, Rock Lee

That is funny.

And true...

Hehe, well, I don't mean to insult people, but there are a lot of Japanese girls with long skinny legs 😆

I don't know why, but some Chinese people compare the most attractive Chinese and the ugliest Japanese, and make a generalization that the Chinese are more attractive than the Japanese.

I don't think Japanese have fatter legs than Chinese but their legs seems not straight, however I have seen quite some Taiwanese with bent/bow legs too!:haihai:

Well I don't think there are more fat Chinese than Japanese but Japanese on average is thinner than Chinese.:haihai: Many Chinese are slim while many Japanese are skinny.

I have seen a great deal of skinny Taiwanese in Taiwan and Hongkese with "chicken legs" too.:haihai:

Even for a native Japanese, it's hard to tell the difference sometimes. But you can tell a lot from how they dress. Other than that, perhaps the eyes and their lids.... Or simply walk up and listen to them speak. Nothing's more obvious than that.

most of the girls (About 80%) is easy to tell if they are japanese or chinese
The men on the other hand, I can only tell from about 10-20% wheter they are chinese or japanese.

Though i have some troubles telling the difference from Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese

Chinese got alot of races too...and between races there is always a little bit of physical diffrence...I'm Han race...major race in China..

This Life magazine was spreading anti-Japanese propaganda during wartime. That's how China drummed up support from the US.

Not 'exactly the same', but similar enough to not be able to tell by appearance whether someone is Chinese or Japanese.

I often get mistaken for being Japanese, even when the other person is Chinese or Japanese. I think Chinese and Japanese people look similar enough generally such that it's difficult to distinguish either just by looking. This applies also to Koreans.

Speaking of which, there's a fun online quiz on telling apart Chinese, Japanese and Koreans - see how you do: AllLookSame
