Disney movies

Quintessential childhood films. Who hasn't seen at least one Disney movie as a kid? The magic and fantasy and comedy and characters and etc. draw many in, including me. I opted to make a poll on "favorite disney movie", but that'd be a pretty long poll. Instead, I'll ask, What's your most beloved Disney film, and why?


Mine is The Rescuers. The little orphan girl Penny is too cute. The concept of mice rescuers is amusing. I like the music, which is kind of melancholy. The animation is well done too. I will admit, this movie makes me eyes well up every time.

I despise Disney.

Even as a kid, I tired of 'singing, dancing animal movie' after 'singing, dancing animal movie'. They dragged their feet at releasing Miyazaki films when they bought the rights to them, I can piss more than they promoted Mononoke and while they sort of redeemed themselves with Spirited Away, they managed to lose PIXAR.

Also, Disney is one of the main reasons that the excellent DVD covers site was shut down.

Screw you Disney!

The singing does get annoying. But I still like some of the movies.

Actually, I don't despise them 100%. If not for Disney, we wouldn't have Miramax, which would mean we never would have had Clerks and Kevin Smith would still be working at that damned convenience store. If that were the case, my DVD collection would be a few short of what it is... THAT is a terrible thought.

Also, we never would have seen Miracle, THE closest adaptation of any sporting event and a way for Herb Brooks to live forever, God rest his soul. Hidalgo would never have come out, either. And Viggo Mortensen (sp?) would have just been that guy from the Lord of the Rings movie and never would have been able to mix up his film roles a bit.

Ok, so I was grouchy when I woke up this morning and hadn't had my coffee yet. But I can say now after thinking about it, that I despise Disney 91%.

Heh, I never got around to seeing Miracle. I was thinking about it, and then I saw an ad where one of them, the coach I think, says "Lets go win back our sport!" (or something like that.) I remember everybody in the theatre groaned. Hockey was invented in Canada, not the states.

Though if you're giving it such a positive review maybe I should put that aside and actually go rent it

Well, it's not that Brooks was referring to Hockey as an American sport as in we invented it, rather than we want to win it back from the Russians whom had held onto the Gold for over 20 years, I think?

It was one of the proudest moments in our country's Olympic history and will always be remembered by me.

I feel that Hockey is a world sport, not one country holds the rights to it. Hell, I'd like to see Japanese people excel at it so that maybe we can have a true world league.

But yes, this movie is great, you should see it.

Mickey Mouse is my favourite....I read the comics when I was little and collected stuff with him on (I don't do it anymore though)....and Donald Duck!!! [as these two are the Disney "classics" maybe they don't count].

Hmmm...if these two don't count, I would go for the cartoon "Lion KIng", which was a huge Disney success, and I remember I loved it very much when I saw it at the cinema.

i felt so sorry for that poor japanese guy when he thought he scored a goal and it turned out he was pushing it into his own net =(

I loved Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Aladdin (1 & 3), Princess Diaries and Brother Bear.

Even though I am 26, I still am a big kid at heart. It's funny how Disney throws in a few one-liners that only adults would understand. Very smooth.

Well, I'm not much for Disney animated stuff, but I thought that Hercules was pretty cool!

Some of Disney's early stuff was good. I remember my favorite film will always be Sleeping Beauty, though I'm not exactly sure why. Though I also only hate Disney 91%, my biggest gripe with Disney is their flair for HORRIBLE SEQUELS! It's horrible. It's like they're openly stating that they have no more ideas that they can't first steal from Miyazaki first. Aladdin II is the only recent sequel I'll forgive (so I'm also forgiving The Rescuers Down Under), since someone had to find that damned lamp sooner or later. The others, I don't even want to start on.

I was really mad at Disney, and then I saw Lilo and Stitch and I was happy again, but then I heard about Lilo and Stitch II and I felt like I shouldn't have even bothered watching the first one. I mean, look at them: The Little Mermaid II? Lady and the Tramp II? Pocahontas II?!? Atlantis II?!?!?!

My final comment is that I think Disney, Squaresoft, and Konami should all merge together to make one completely new sucky video game that everyone loves somehow, and then they can make three zillion sequels that look exactly the same that everyone wants to buy except for me.

Heh - sorry about that last part. I kind of let my ranting side take over. Heh.

I'm thinking that the reason for the glut of sequels churned out by Disney is to make a killing in the Direct-To-Video market which is HUGE business these days. Hell, if it weren't for DTV, the Olsen twins would probably be on welfare.
