As opposed to Chinese mainland Kanji simplification, Japanese seems to follow their own rules and never want to go in the same track with Chinese mainland simplification. The way I see it sometimes, Chinese mainland simplification is somewhat oversimplification for the sake of having less stroke characters. Japanese simplification is more moderate. Check out Japanese kanji

Well, if you do notice some characteristics, rules, or feature of Japanese simplification system, please post it here. I know traditional Kanji better than simplified ones, so when I see a simplified one, I always try to track down its traditional form for the sake of memory. If I lost this link, I won't be able to pronounce the kanji on other occasion. I have notice Japanese use this simplification メ as in 図, 二 as in 摂, and 川 as in 桜.

If you notice some other features, please share it here, thanks.

Odd simplification

阿什哲次 reports of the 旅 of a 旅館 simplified as R. Not as romaji. Representing the kanji borrowing romaji.
