Blood red in Japanese

I want to describe something as "blood-red"... I know that red is "akai", but is there any way I can portray the sense of a darker colour red?

Also, would this adjective come before or after my noun?

i dunno enough japanese to even start to answer your question, but i'd guess the answer would give you something slightly unauthentic.. what you need to realize is that most languages don't have anywhere CLOSE to the amount of names for colours that english has..

Take swedish.. sure, you COULD say "Blood Red" just by direct translation (Blod Röd) but that doesn't exactly tell the swede anything.. they'll just go "ok.. so red then?" we usually only use "dark red", "bright red" and "red" for reds and the equivalent for all other colours.

I need it for my new email address though... what should I use then? I don't just want it to say "red"...it has to be dark red!!

And this is the extent of my familiarity I'm afraid....
真っ (pure, true) 赤 (red). It might work if you're looking for darker blood through the capillaries and veins, or was it something brighter, after it has been reoxygenated ?

朱(P); 緋 【あけ】 (1) scarlet; red; (2) bloody

Another possibility, 'Ake' has the vivid undertones and graphic imagery.

There's also 'ebicha' for maroon; or reddish-brown....

紅(kurenai), of the great X-Japan song of the same name. I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it means too: Blood red, or Rouge. If it's more of a crimson color you can use 深紅色(shinkoushoku), but I'm positive it's 紅.

Blood red is literally:
血のように赤い
(red like blood, chi no you ni akai)

Dark red is just:
暗赤色
(ansekishoku)

紅色 (beni iro) or more poetically 紅 (kurenai) is scarlet color.

Since you are looking to use it in an email address, I'll note that the "scarlet scorpion team" in Crayon Shinchan is called the "beni sasori tai", while a character in Ranma is called "Kurenai Tsubasa" - Scarlet wings.
