Are you afraid of the dark?

It is my belief that many people are in fact scared of dark areas. I'm not speaking of unfamiliar territory. Places like your own home. As a child I was afraid of the dark, but now I am quite comfortable with it. I actually prefer dark or dimly lit rooms.

I'm not anymore. I used to be, but I changed. The dark is comforting in a way, I look at it more as a shelter from the bad things. Nothing can find me if I'm in a dark room...

Same goes for me...exept (and this is no lie) I sometimes image seeing things that aren't there in the dark...like aliens or shades.It really gives me goosebumps from time to time, but I'm not afraid tho

Sometimes I worked overtime till midnight or even later, when I was walking on the country road at the still night, it's like the whole world is mine!

I know what you mean. When I was a boy I lived in a rural area with no street lights or even any houses around. It is a supreme sense of being alone. Not necessarily lonely, but you are keenly aware of the lack of other human beings around you.

For me, the most interesting part is when there is no moon in the sky. It feels like you are walking through a fog and wondering if you will bump into something you can't see. It's a hard feeling to describe, like being very small and unsure of what is around you

I understand what you mean. I used to feel as if I was invisible, or that I was the only person who was awake in the neigborhood(probably was).

I love the dark. I hate it at night when you are out in the country and you get light pollution from nearby towns. I have thick curtains in my house to prevent light from streetlights getting in. Gives me a feeling of being away from everything and I find it very soothing.

No, I am not afraid of the dark at all. Maybe when I was a kid, but now I am fine.....the only thing I am scared of in the dark is running into stuff I can't see, but the darkness itself...not at all....

I live in the city centre, so I never experience pitch black....I don't frequent dark woods etc....

Gandhi used to afraid of the dark when he was young; always suspicious that a thug might be waiting around the corner with a knife to slit his throat. Reading that gave me the chills going to the out house at night. Now I still prefer to sleep with the lights on because I want to have a clear view of the things I see in my dream.

Enough kidding; I thrive in the darkness. The darker the better. In the field without moonlight is the most romantic thing imaginable. Think of it. What moonster in its right mind want to come out and be seen ? Either silence or some sound effects to jack up the suspense would greatly enhance the dark experience. How about telling some stories with just a little blood ? Goosebumps are only reflexes; has nothing to do with fear. It also enhances the enjoyment all year round.

how can you not be scared of the dark? *hides from boogieman* lol i dont know, the fact that i can't see anything scares me... but if there is a little light, i love the dark. in fact i prefer my room being dark, bright lights hurt me eyes... T_T *was dizzy in school because of strong sunlight*

I'm fine in the dark, except from in houses. I can't stand up in my room in the dark, I feel too exposed... I have to get into my bed and under the covers.
I love outside though, if I can't sleep going outside and sitting in the dark at the table... I love that

not anymore.... but i always have a candle burning in my room ( just some ritual i always do.... ) so its never really dark in my room... and if i look outside, i can see the city light in the background...

A little, if i'm alone. But not much, when i'm walking our dog i go trough the park (which is named the Peoples park, how commie doesn't that sound ) which is totally dark when there isn't a football game on at the other side of the river/lake/whatever that flows trough it.

Well, after way too many years of watching horror flicks, I'l admit to being more than a tad nervous about the dark. While I haven't lowered myself to needing a nightlight when I go to sleep, but I do keep the shades open slightly so the light from the streetlamp outside comes in. Gives me a sense of comfort.

As for being outside after dark, it's not something I enjoy, especially if I'm alone, mainly because of the inherent hazards that come from living in a crime infested inner city environment. All sorts of terrors, both real and imagined lurk in the dark, so I rarely venture out once the sun goes down unless I absolutely have to. Now if I'm with someone, it'd be cool!
