Any better fonts for reading Japanese out there?

I searched the board and tried Googling for this information first, but was unable to procure anything useful, so I'm trying my luck here.

Seems to me that the default Windows font for Japanese is rather difficult to read. Plus, some of the kanji strokes are beyond unreadable, especially at normal sizes -- I always have to enlarge the text-size (which is something I'm not very keen on doing, because oft it breaks apart a site's design/layout).

Can anyone thus suggest any good Japanese fonts for Windows, and, if it needs a different method for installation other than the usual method of copying to the default Fonts folder on Windows, provide an installation instruction too?

Simplest way is to make your own font. It does seem hard to get decent fonts, but look for other types, such as chinese fonts, not just Japanese. I have some good fonts on my home PC, so if I can get them across to this PC, i will post them on the net for download.

Try using: "フォント ダウンロード" in google. It gave me tons of results.

I've tried downloading Japanese fonts. From what I know all you need to do is to copy the files into the usual font folder.

Sorry. I had a look, but I haven't got them any more.

A couple of months ago I created a program that turned into a virus (because I gave it so many possible things it could do). I wasn't connected to the net, so it spread around my PC. as a result, I am now unable to view Arial Black, papyrus, times new roman and trbuchet MS, plus all the Japanese fonts and a few more. THe virus destroyed them. Plus some of the vital programs and .dat files needed to run the OS properly.

If I can get any, I will pm links to you (and will host them on my own domain).

Sure, I wouldn't mind that -- but please, without the virus!

Also, I downloaded the Vista Japanese font, Meiryo. It looks quite good, but I was wondering how I could replace the default IME font (which really looks like a Japanese version of Courier New, BTW) with Meiryo? I looked through the help file, couldn't find any installation procedures, as did the Settings tab for the IME program itself.

Any help, possibly?
