All-Time Favorite Movies

What are your all-time favorite movies? The flicks you just can't get enough of, movies you've watched a hundred times, yet remain as fresh to you as the very first time you viewed them? They may be great, they may be bad, or just plain cheesy as hell, but they're the flicks you love unconditionally. Going over my considerable collection, I've culled 20 supreme favorites, here they are in alphabetical order:

(I still rate this as truley great movie)

It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963)
(who can forget this, a madcap adventure)

Swiss Family Robinson
(Disney but still a great movie)

20000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954)
(It was a hit when it came out)

2001: A Space Odyssey
(I think even today, it is a good movie)

Spartacus (1960)
(we are all spartacus, i would rather
die than be a slave)

Houdini (1953)
(Tony Curtis, great movie)

Taras Bulba (1962)
(Tony Curtis, great movie again)

Blazing Saddles
Spaceballs
Young Frankenstein

-Mel Brooks at his best. Blazing Saddles is pure gold from beginning to end, Young Frankenstein showcases Gene Wilder's considerable comedic abilities and Spaceballs pokes fun at sci-fi brilliantly. Speaking of sci-fi...

Star Wars VI - Return of the Jedi

-Many people say Empire was the best of the series, but I favor Luke in his more evolved Jedi form...though the Ewoks ARE annoying.

Army of Darkness

Bruce Campbell at his campy best, with great jokes and a fairly convincing low-budget skeleton army.

The Lion King

I've always been a s_ucker for Disney, and this was my favorite by far. Great story, great songs, great voice acting.

Indiana Jones - all of them

These movies, combined with his role as Han Solo, made Harrison Ford one of my favorite actors as a kid. I still think he's great, despite some of the (what I perceive to be) garbage he's been in since.

Funniest movie ever seen

Battle Royale
absurd plot with great chicks

"Legend of Musashi" & "Duel at Ihcioji Temple" & "Duel at ganryu Island"
the best trilogy ever made. Must be seen as whole.

1) THE BLUES BROTHERS

Nothing tops this, nothing.

After that it's a massive tie for second place between Sneakers, Pulp Fiction, Hidden Fortress, Akira, Kiss of the Dragon, various Sanjuro and Zatoichi films, Sin City, The Last Samurai, and Titan A.E.

I have to disagree with Da Monstar about Samurai Trillogy though...

...Miyamoto Musashi's life was compelling enough to not need the massive creative liscense taken in those films--they took an incredible historical figure and turned him into just another cookie cutter Samurai character. What makes Musashi so interesting is in how he deviates from this stereotype, and adding overused plot elements such as the tragic love interest, the kindly tutoring monk, and being the "village outcast" back in only hurt the films.

...not to mention turning Kojiro into a long term rival instead of just another fallen opponent on Musashi's path to perfection.
