For over 15 years I have had a mouse living in my garage. I leave an old rug rolled up in the corner and he/she(or relatives of) lives inside it. I feed it some bird seed in the winter to help it out a bit.
Now to the interesting part. A few months ago I bought a new cat litter box and threw the old one in the garage with the litter still in it. I noticed some mouse turds in it and thought the mouse might have fallen in it and got trapped. I searched through it(no mouse) and in the process , covered up the old mouse poo. A few days latter, it was loaded with mouse doo-doo again. So now I know the mouse climbs in there each day to do his duty. Strikes me as funny a mouse is using a cat's litter box.

That's does seem strange - you would think the mouse would stay away from the cat's scent. But I've had pet rodents before, mice, hamsters and gerbils, and they are very particular about where they do their business. Usually they choose a corner as far away from their sleeping quarters as they can get. I had a hamster once that I kept in a large four-storey cage. He had two little houses inside, one on the ground floor for sleeping and one on the third floor that he used as a toilet. It used to crack me up how he would climb up three ladders every time he needed to go 😊

If only all pets were so easy to train!
