Hi,

1. 今までの行動に責任を感じ、ウッドにクィヂッチ・チームを辞めさせてほしいと申し出た。

Does this mean he wanted Wood to let him perform the action クィヂッチ・チームを辞めす?

2. 試験を一週間後に控えてある日、・・・

a) What is the purpose of 後?

b) Is ある part of a phrase ある日 or part of a phrase 控えてある?

3. 「賢者の石」を一ダース賭けたっていい。

Is 賭けたっていい = 賭けた + って (supposition) + いい?

4. 「これだけの本がありゃ、どっかに三頭犬を突破する方 法だって書いてあるよ。」

a) Is ありゃ = あれば?

b) Which だって is this?

5. 僕たちがスネイプを嫌ってるってことは誰だって知って いるし、ダンブルドアだって僕たちがスネイプをクビに するために作り話をしていると思うだろう。

Does the second だって mean "also"?

1)
a tip to type kana via romaji-input method
クィディッチ qwidhitti (this is shorter than "kuxidexixtuti")

It's "he wanted Wood to let him(= the subject) quit the team". (not 辞めす but 辞める)

2) a)
一週間後: a week later

b)
I believe it's 試験を一週間後に控えある日. ある means "a certain" here.

3)
Yes. It's the same as 賭けても. (賭けたって sounds more colloquial, though.)

4) a)
Yes.

b)
も (= "also/too" with connoting "even")

5)
ditto

Thanks Toritoribe.

1. Yeah, I meant 辞める. So, the action he wants to be allowed to perform is クィヂッチ・チームを辞める, right?

2. Yes, it should be 控えた. That makes more sense to me with ある日, but I still don't understand 一週間後. As far as I can gather this part is supposed to mean "(one day) about a week before the exams were due to start". I can't figure out how 後 fits into that meaning.

4b. Does the "also/too" aspect of the meaning refer to the fact that other things are also written in the books?

1. Yes.

2. Does 試験を一週間後に控えている make sense?

4.b. I think "even" is probably more the feel of it.

one day about a week before the exams were due to start = one day the exams were due to start a week later (from the day)

控える is a funny verb. Here it means to face a impending situation.

試験を一週間後に控えている
It means literally facing a coming exam in a weeks time.

Also works for space.
背後に山を控えた町
A town that faces a mountain to its back.

Stranger still 控える is both transitive and intransitive. 背後に山が控えている町 pretty much mean the same thing.

Similar to 臨む. 山に臨んでいる町。

試験を一週間後に控えたある日
This literally means one day which is facing an exam that is after a weeks time.

Hope this helps.
