1. 番組でその会社のことを取り上げる。

In what sense is 取り上げる meant, and who or what is the likely subject of the verb?


2. これはみんなで協力して作り上げたものだ。

I believe this means, more or less, "If we all work together we should finish this".

Is ものだ used in a sense like "ought to" or "is expected to be the case", or does もの literally refer to これ (meaning "this is a thing that...")? How do you tell?


3. 町をあげて来訪者を心から歓迎した。

Translation given: "The whole town accorded a hearty welcome to the visitor."

Does 町をあげて means "entering the town"?


4. 七つの段落を大きく三つに分けるとしたら、どこで分け られますか。

My translation: "If you were to divide the seven paragraphs broadly into three parts, where would you divide them?"

Is 分けられます potential form of 分ける?

1) So does it just mean that a story about 会社のこと is featured on the programme?

2) Which is which? I have been unable to find a clear explanation of this point, only several very confusing pages. More generally, I have never understood very well the difference between the ～た form modfiying a noun and dictionary form modifying a noun. In some cases they're interchangeable aren't they?

3) Do you mean that あげて in 町をあげて meaning "the whole town" is a special use of the same verb as is found in 彼らはついに政府に対して兵を挙げた? (It's just that I don't immediately see any connection in meaning between the two.)

As in the threads I linked in my previous post, "the present form + ものだ" means "ought to" or "is expected to be the case", whereas "past form + ものだ" is for past habit "used to". They are not interchangeable. As for your example sentence, これ is the key. These ～ものだ have a nuance of "generally speaking", so they are not used for a specific thing such like これ. If the topic is thing(s) they make repeatedly/customarily, e.g. こういうもの, it would be able to mean "used to".
In conclusion, もの is the pronoun for これ, as in the second interpretation in your initial post.
