In the sentence アメリカに来てもう一か月です, what is the grammar behind the ~て form of 来る? Is it just to combine two parts of the sentence? is there some other more obvious way to say "it's been 1 month since I have gone to America"? Maybe something like アメリカに来たから?

It's used just to connect two clauses in the temporal order. It can be rephrased with 来てから, not 来たから which means "because I came to America".

Thank you. Is there a way to convey "since" (temporal, not causal) in Japanese? I thought it's から.

から(～てから) is indeed the one, as I wrote above. 以来 can work, too.

It was after he got home that the trouble started.

後半戦になってからが，彼の腕の見せどころだった
