Hi,

1. どこから現れたものやら、フロントガラスの上に、金文 字で「夜の騎士バス」と書かれている。

What is ものやら? Is it expressing uncertainty about どこから現れた?

2. 杖腕をさし出せば参じます。

What does 参じます mean here? It's talking about putting out your hand to stop a bus.

3. 「そんなとこですっころがって、いってぇなにしてた? 」

a) What is すっころがって? I guess that the ころ part is 転 , but I can't determine the exact verb/compound/ending.

b) いってぇ = いったい, right?

4. 「あいよ」スタンは自慢げに言った。「お望みしでえ。土の上ならどこでもござれだ。水ん中じゃ、 なーんもできねえが。」

a) Is しでえ = しだい(次第)?

b) I assume that ござれ is probably something to do with ござる, but I don't understand the reason for this form. Is it an imperative? I don't see how an imperative makes sense there.

c) What is 水ん中? 水の中?

5. 「十一シックル。十三出しゃぁ熱いココアがつくし、十 五なら湯たんぽと好きな色の歯ブラシがついてくらぁ」

(シックル is a fictitious type of coin.)

a) What is 出しゃぁ? 出せば would seem to make sense; could it be that?

b) What is くらぁ? I assume something to do with くれる, but I'm not clear exactly what.

1)
Right. It's uncertain just ike どこから現れたものだろうか or どこから現れたのか.

−やら
1 〔不確かな気持ちを表す〕⇒−か
どこへやら行ってしまった
He has gone somewhere.
留守中に田中さんとやらが来ましたよ
A Mr. Tanaka came to see you while you were out.
彼に話していいのやら,いけないのやら
I don't know whether I should tell him or not.
あの人がそれをやる気になるのはいつのことやら
There is no telling when he will feel like doing it.
いつの間にやら数人の男に囲まれていた
I was surrounded by several men before I was aware of it.
「急がば回れ」とやら言いますね
"Haste makes waste," as the saying goes.

2)
That's a humble verb of 行く/来る. The kun'yomi of the same kanji is まいります, as you would know?

3) a)
すっ is a prefix to emphasize the meaning of the noun, verb or adjective following it. Thus, that's 転がって.

b)
ござる【御座る】
3 「行く」「来る」の意の尊敬語。いらっしゃる。おいでになる。
ござる【御座る】の意味 - 国語辞書 - goo辞書

In this case, ござる is an honorific verb of 来る, i.e., ござれ is 来い. どこでも来い means something like "I'm OK with anywhere".

5) a)
Yes.

b)
The speaker uses Tokyo Downtown dialect. くらぁ is a rough way of saying くる.

Thanks Toritoribe

1) I am somewhat familiar with the uses of やら such as in the dictionary examples you quote, but in my sentence どこから現れたものやら、..., I am less clear about the purpose of もの. Could you shed any light on that?

2) Right, I found those meanings, but I cannot see how the meaning 行く or 来る fits in this sentence. The procedure being described is that you put out your hand to stop a bus. Therefore 参じます would seem to have to mean something like "stop", assuming that the subject is the bus? Or could it mean that the bus comes when you put out your hand (which is not strictly true)?

1)
Two different interpretations are possible; 1)a pronoun "thing" and 2)a nominalizer.

2)
Right. The bus comes to you (and stop there).
