Hello,

1. これは、はげしい時代の流れにおくれまいとする現代人の努力を物語ると同時に、会社に生きる「会社人」から、個にめざめた「社会人」への転向を示すものといえよう。

Presumably いえよう here is the volitional form of 言える, thus meaning something like "we can say..."?

2. ああ、ぼくはどうせなまけ者だから、ちょっと本気にできないだろうけど。

Translation given: "Well, I'm sort of a lazy type, so you might not take me all that seriously."

How to parse どうせなまけ? I can't seem to make anything related to "lazy type" out of this.

3. ずいぶんむずかしいお仕事、なさっておいでなんですね。

Translation given: "Sounds like you do a very difficult job."

I'm assuming なさって is from なさる (honorific "do"), but what is おいで adding? Is this just a standard honorific forn (that probably I should know!)?

4. うちもねずみには実はなやまされ通しなんです。

Translation given: "We're also beleaguered by rats"

I can't really see what 通し means here. The dictionary says "direct; right through; straight", but what does that have to do with being beleaguered by rats?

Edited: Oh, sorry, I think it's ~どおし, "throughout...; all through..."

1)
Yes, it's the volitional of 言える, but acts as a classical/written form of 言えるだろう here.

We would be able to say~/It would be able to be said that~

2 推量・想像の意を表す。「会議では多くの反論が出され よう」
よう - goo辞書

2)
どうせ~だから is a kind of set phrase.

3)
おいで is from おいでだ/おいでになる, i.e., an honorific of いる.

しているんですね --> なさっておいでなんですね

4)
That's the noun usage of the -masu stem of the subsidiary verb(補助動詞) 通す. It's almost the same to 悩まされっぱなし.

5 (動詞の連用形について)最後まで…続ける。「遂にや り―・した」
通す - goo辞書

悩まされ通し
being annoyed (by rats) all the time

Thanks Toritoribe.

In #4, would 通し be pronounced とおし or どおし?

Good question.
When 通し is used as a noun, it's pronounced どおし since Rendaku occurs. Whereas when used as a conjugation of a verb, it's とおし.
e.g.
朝から歩き通[どお]しで疲れた。
疲れていたが、最後まで歩き通[とお]した。

Thus, 悩まされ通し is なやまされどおし.
