Ok, simple little question for you all. What sort of music do you like to listen to most?
Above I have listed 16 different music genres ranging from Alternative Rock to Folk to Rock.
One thing that you will see is missing from the various musical genres is J-Rock and J-Pop. I am afraid to say that those two are not classisfied as musical genres but are classified as collective nouns and that both are regional forms of music.
For the younger members of this forum who post mainly in the Entertainments forum here are two links in order to help them understand that J-Rock is just a regional term. The first link is :- http://en.wikipedia.org.wiki/Rock_music. In there you will see the 28 sub genres of Rock and that Japan is listed in the regional section. Also it would be nice if people named thier favourite Band, Album and Song title that they like most.
As for mine, its Iron Maiden, Number of the Beast, and the song title starts with the immortal words "We Want Information!"

I voted "classical", but I listen to oldies, folk and soft rock, too. My fish Crusty listens to music more than I do, though - he likes classical mostly (he's been listening to National Public Radio most of the time lately, and even seems to like some of the talking). But he tolerates anything he hasn't heard before until he gets tired of it (though I haven't tried him with heavy metal or rock - I don't think he'd like those)! I'm really not kidding - Crusty loves music even more than food, and gives obvious signs of whether he likes particular music or not. I think he's a very good critic!
 
Thanks to the person who voted for Classical Music, would be nice to know who it was. my favourite piece of classical music is Symphony No.41 - The Jupiter Symphony by Mozart.

It was me! Post #2. I like Tzaikovsy's (sp) "Nutcracker Suite" (so does Crusty) and Bach's minuets, "Air on the G String", Xerxes' Largo (Handel).
 
The problem here is I can't vote. I listen to a mix of every kind of music. I have Cheap Trick, Erasure, Culture Club, Maroon 5, Garth Brooks, Big & Rich, Bee Gees, Neal Diamond, Shania Twain, Elton John, Wings and the wacky list goes on. There's no real rhyme or reason to the music I listen to and I would find it hard to narrow to one, oh and I love musicals too....
 
I'm like that too - I have a mixture (classical, Moody Blues (one of Crusty's favorites), Toto, American Indian music).
 
Oh, I fogot new age. I like David Lanz, Mannheim Steamroller and Ottmar Liebert. My massage therapist plays American Indian music which I can relax to along with some type of South American flute music that is just amazing. :) I used to fall asleep at night listening to Handels "Water Music".
 
I like rock, blues, metal, classical, industrial, goth, folk, electronica, darkwave, some dance music, some trance music, some techno, some jazz, some pop, and some punk. 👍
 
I like all kinds of music, but I voted for country since I grow up listening to it.

My favorite band is Staind and their song I like the most is 'Outside.'

My favorite male singer is Chris LeDoux and his song 'One less Tornado in Texas'

My favorite female singer is Utada Hikura and her song 'Kermlin Dust.'
 
Well, let's see, I like pop and rock from the 60's through the 80's, including the original British Invasion from the likes of The Beatles, Rolling Stones and The Who, old school J-Pop from the 70's and 80's like Pink Lady, Candies and Wink, and yes, I like Disco too!

..honestly, I should have ticked off about half of the options.. but I went for the more general one: rock. Actually, my musical taste is about anything a normal radio station doesn't broadcast :p
 
I mainly listen to classical music, but I could not vote because Broadway musicals was not an option! I listen to a lot of that. Also, I still listen to some Rock/Pop from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Finally, I listen to a little bit of other genres. I listen to little Country music in general (none of the modern stuff), but I have just about everything Patsy Cline ever recorded.
 
I'm in a pop punk band so most of my influences lie within that genre but I like loads of stuff ranging from singer songwriters like Cat Stevens and Mike Park, to Bruce Springsteen etc. All in all though my love for pop punk and ska wins through
 
Anything and everything except hip hop, rap, country, and some of the more extreme metals. 😌
 
let's see, I really listen everything actually...as long as it's music.
But then, the dutch radio stations are not too fond of experimenting with different styles, so mostly I'm stuck with pop, which I don't particularly like, unless it's from before the turn of the century. So that's where the internet helps out...I love Indie and Jazz, rock and punk rock are welcome too...alternative is also cool with me...

It's easier to say what I don't like: jam bands (phish, etc), trance (not techno, trance), corporate rock (nickleback, hinder, the clarks, panic! at the disco), and roots rock reggae... (I like dub reggae, dancehall, first wave ska... but all of the reggae popularized in the united states by Bob Marely which gives White kids the impression that Jamaica is a magical land of laid back pot-smokers is for the birds)... There's a reason that Steel Pulse named one of their albums "State of Emergency", and that machine gun fire echos through many of King Tubby / Lee Perry's dubs....
 
My main musical love falls in the 60's and early 70's with artists such as... The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Doors, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Bill Withers, Elton John, CCR, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Otis Redding, Queen, Ray Charles, Simon and Garfunkel, Rush, Velvet Underground, etc.

I also have a fairly large jazz collection with my favorites being... Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Sun Ra, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Booker T and the M.G.s, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, Dexter Gordon and Jaco Pastorius.

Other assorted artists I enjoy are... Ravi Shankar, 12 Girls Band, anything played on the Erhu, Joe Hisaishi, Yoko Kanno, YUKI, Faye Wong, Yuji Ohno, just to name a few lol.


I've recently started sampling some classical peices and must say I thoroughly enjoy putting on my headphones and reading a good book. It's very relaxing. I look forward to listening to a great deal of classical music.
 
The Velvet Underground, along with bands like Big Star, were one of my first big early influences, they're both great bands, if you haven't heard Big Star, you should give them a listen, much like the Velvets, they influenced many many bands that would follow them.

I don't know if I would say that Booker T & the M.G.s was Jazz, isn't he more of a Staxx records R&B man? A Jazz favourite of mine is Keith Jarrett, in his solo concerts he works by & large improvisationally, and creates some startlingly beautiful and at times chatoic music.
 
Yea, Booker T is prolly best described as soul or R&B. I just threw them in the jazz part because I'm more used to their instrumental peices, but yes, theyre not really jazz. I've never listened to Big Star but I'll most definitely check them out.
