The situation with the COVID-19 in the US and Europe seems out of hands, to me it appear that Japan handle the situation pretty well.

In some places they have forced confinement, like if you go out you can get fine and get arrested.

Here in Japan, at least on the outskirt of Tokyo, not sure how it is in the center of the city, don't look like were in a state of emergency.

I go to the park every day and each time the gov suggest to stay home there are more people out, probably because the weather is good.

It is probably the first time in this country that kids have such long vacation, a lot of kids just go out to play with their friends from what I can see.

Still when I talk with someone from the US they are like "State of emergency has been declared in Japan. It is very difficult times for you, it's terrible, hope you can make it", I am always surprised by their anxiety.

I feel bad, I don't dare telling them that's actually the best time ever (expect for the usual Japan things, if you read my other posst) because I can work from home, don't have to commute :D:D :D

But I've noticed that each times there is something in Japan, in can be a earthquake in Hokkaido or a Typhoon in Kyushu, people in the US are ready to make a video "Sending our love to Japan"

That's quite amazing, don't think it works the other way around though :unsure:

After reading the other post about the Hiroshima bombing, I wonder if this event influence the Americans to see Japanese people like fragile beings/eternal victims
which would explain their constant out of proportion compassion toward Japan

Interesting thought. I'm not American so can't comment but I'd like to know what Americans think. As for your earlier comment about Japan handling the virus well - I think they aren't but it's probably too early to make a judgement. I certainly quite like working at home, being away from a highly dysfunctional workplace, and seeing more of my kids. And does anyone else in Tokyo think the air is much nicer?
