MEXT Scholarship through University Recommendation

Hello... am new to this forum. Thanks for all the useful informations you guys have shared. My question is rather simple. I have applied for univ recommendation at the UTokyo, the preliminary screening result is expected to be out by this month end (for the dept of civil engineering)..did any of you get the result?? I have been eagerly waiting since weeks,..

I have also applied for the same program but did not get result till now. I hope today or tomorrow we will get it. best of luck !

Hi @fadi932, that's great to know. I thought today we may get, probably we need to wait few more days. You applied for masters or PhD? Could you pls drop me a msg once you get it? My mail [email protected]

Hello all! Thanks for all the priceless information and personal stories shared in this thread, it's been extremely useful.

I decided to sign up and add a post myself regarding the university recommendation process, since I am in the middle of it (here's hope it goes well...).

Basically, I am not sure what additional steps lay ahead of me.

I applied to Sokendai University, and got formally accepted by the professor. I have since had an interview with him and discussed my research proposal so that it fits his current research. I was contacted by an assistant professor to arrange for an interview with a commitee (basically, my prospect professor and 3 more experts in the field).

I am not sure about:
1) What other decision-making steps lay ahead?
2) What kind of interview should I expect? Is it usually research proposal-oriented with hard questions?
3) Should I expect the very professor I talked with to ask hard questions as well?

I applied for the embassy recommendation MEXT previously and the interview was very laidback, we discussed general stuff about life in Japan, and barely touched my research proposal at all. Hence I am curious as to how the university recommendation interview might differ.

Sorry for such a long post. Thank you very much in advance!! :)
(just in case, PM me at [email protected])

Sokendai University
Hi! I got selected for the Embassy recommended MEXT and was placed at SOKENDAI.
Its very rare to see SOKENDAI applicants! Which department have you applied for? (Mine is department of genetics)
I hope you pass the interview!

@Oshinko and by the way, do you know if you are applying for PGP or General Category scholarship? Both have different deadlines. If you're applying for General Category then you're going to receive final confirmation in May, if PGP - then in mid-July.
@Useless I am applying for the General Category scholarship - to Hokkaido University. Best of luck to you as well! I can't believe I'll have to wait until May to know though!

Just sharing my experience, I also did "casual" skype call interview. However, in my case I also did the email interview with relatively difficult questions concerning my research and general stuffs (like japanese language ability etc)...

I am applying to Osaka University for general recommendation, nice to meet you :)

Hello again!

@indojindesu I am applying to the aerospace department. The interview was alright, it wasn't a make it or break it, I feel like if they had a ranking already, the interview probably didn't change it, but it didn't do my application any harm. They asked some difficult questions concerning my exact career plans and how I've been true to those in my past.

@Tepanyakigo there was no mail interview in my case, I guess this really shows how every university does things differently. Results are supposed to be out by April, hopefully.

Worst case, I will at least have learnt a lot from the process and I'll have a stronger application for the next call! :)

I'm sure you will be fine!
Good luck! :) (its good to see that you are being positiveabout the worst care scenario too! I hope you get selected! )

Hello everyone!
My question: The result of my application is supposed to be released today, but I haven't received any email from the university. If I am rejected, will the university send any notification?

They should inform you from what I know...

Hello!
Did anyone get the result of Keio university for IGP-M12 program? They said result will be published in the early February

Does anyone know if KyotoU/Todai/Tohoku gives entrance examination for graduate studies and some information regarding it?

You can check the website for each university. Universities as big as Kyodai/Todai/Tohoku of course put the information for admission on their each respective websites.

Hi All,
Thank you for your insights.
I applied for the MEXT University Recommendation through Tohoku University's School of Engineering. The application deadline was January 17th, 2017.
Unlike most schools, Tohoku University does not post any information regarding the MEXT University Recommendation, more specifically a general timetable presenting a date of notification for acceptance or denial.
I was wondering if any people that have applied for this scholarship at Tohoku University, in the past or present, may have more information that they could share?
Thanks!

Hi guys!

How long does it take for professors to reply when you mail them? I mailed a letter of intent 3 days ago and there's still no reply from them.

Hello everyone,

Is there any chances of being rejected by MEXT although has been recommended by university?
Do any of you guys ever (or know someone who) experience this situation?

I am currently happy and worried at the same time because I have been nominated but the Program Coordinator said that the confirmation of MEXT scholarship will be out at August. The 5 months gap would be really useful to enhance my Japanese skill but if there's still uncertainty it means that I should also prepare plan B (applying to another university).

Thanks!

Hello,
I have found many cases where university recommended student have been rejected in this thread. Btw, in which universities you have applied?

Wow, your answer gave me the chill....
It's TiTech.

Question: if every university has X spots reserved (a number I assume they know beforehand), how come they don't just choose which students get the grants? If MEXT rejects students, it means unis are recommending more students to MEXT than the allocated amount?

I guess if they don't know the exact number beforehand, then it makes sense that some students don't get it in the end.

Someone willing to clarify, please? :)

Hello there! If you are recommended by university like TITECH, you have higher chance... last year my friend applied to TITECH and mext approved it.

Ganbatte!
Hai, ganbarimasu. Thanks for your encouragement, Teppanyaki-san!
It seems that I would fill the 5 months gap with preparations anyway, even there's still probability of being rejected. *finger crossed*

Hi All,

Best of luck with applications! I've been reading through many answers but haven't seen anyone applying to Waseda University Recommendation for MEXT. Give me a shout if you are!

Hello @Maria_arbell! I'm very pleased to share with you this blog from an online friend of mine who I think also applied to Waseda University and got the MEXT scholarship. Hope this helps your query. :)

How I got the Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Japanese Government Scholarship (1/4) – Lester James Miranda

To all MEXT applicants like me, I'll keep you posted once I get the result by May or June. Let's keep ourselves updated folks. God bless us all! ;)
