Hi, I am hopefully applying for mext 2017, I have a question regarding the exams,
I looked at some of the past papers, and there are some topics in math and physics, that I never studied before, and I am planning on studying them. So I wanted to check all the list of topics that I am supposed to be familiar with (the curriculum), however, couldn't find any list.
So does anyone have such a list? or can suggest me a place to find it.

Last year I passed all the exams and even aced the interview, but was rejected in the secondary screening due to being underaged!
But I hope I do make it this time.
For those of you who need any advice from my experience on the exams or interview, feel free to let me know!

I have one question if it's not too much trouble. I know that the 2017 application will start at a different time for each "district", but should i be worried if the one for my area hasn't started yet? I already have the application, which oddly enough is the one for 2017 despite the website still having info for the 2016 one.
Also, i remember seeing somewhere that your recommendation needs to be from the dean or principle of your school, not just a teacher. Is that true?

I called the embassy in my country & I was told that any teacher that has taught you while in high school can recommend you.
the main thing is that the letter must be typed on the school's letter heading paper!
so it's not a big deal if it's from the principal or not.
Generally, an authorised teacher from your school is doing so!

....ummm... yo m new here....i wanted to ask ..that applying in 2016 means if we get selected we will go to college in 2017????...eh...i feel stupid to ask this ...if yes then we will have to wait one year ??? ...ummm...like...6 months????

That's correct. If you go through the process this year and you get accepted, you'll go to Japan in April 2017.

Hello everyone! i'm new in this forum. I'm from Mongolia. My sis in grade 12 of high school this year and she'll be applying for Monbukagakusho Scholarship 2017, for undergrauate courses. She's going to apply for economics or law. So could anyone have 2011-2016 MEXT papers? Please send to my email "[email protected]" please? please?

According to the instruction manual, one can waive several required documents if you have a certificate that you passed a university's entrance qualification examination, if applicable.
So I'm a university student and I still do have my official notice. However it wasn't specified in the manual that this choice was for university students and such. Furthermore, it didn't exactly specify too if it meant that the certificate is from the university you are in now, or a university in Japan (under MEXT) you applied internationally.
Another question I have is that is the letter from the university stating that you are enrolled and are expected to finish the year of studies equivalent to the certificate of enrollment (as part of the required documents) in purpose?
I'm critical about this dilemma because the embassy claims that they don't inform you that they've received your application, other than through the courier you used (assuming that the said courier informs their customers the progress of the delivery of your package). And if the application lacks any required documents you are immediate rejected from the process entirely.

For those who have ample knowledge on japan's educational system, I have a question. :x3: If you merit it, can you accelerate a year in university? If so, how difficult is it to earn that merit?
Because you see, as much as I'm hopeful of my chances of getting in the scholarship, I do have my reservations of the time I have to spend if I do pass the scholarship. In my country, the old educational curriculum is shorter than most, if not the rest, of the other countries. As young as 15 years old can be, I'm already studying in university (but I'm recently been 16 years old so that makes me eligible to the scholarship). Phew. But I belong to the last batch of that old curriculum (among the other exceptions for this year), so there's little worry for those in my country who would apply for the scholarship next time.
Anyway, I also do have my reservations in being estranged from my high school batch mates. Not that it would affect me deeply, but I do get shaky at the notion of them already working while I'm still studying in university. Moreover, me passing the scholarship means me relinquishing my slot in my country's state university, which I have already grown to love because it has instilled to me nationalism and patriotism as well as the desire to serve my countrymen. I could handle this loss, but because I have to pass the university of MEXT's choice for me means that there is still uncertainty of my tertiary education. If I pass the scholarship but not the entrance examination of a Japanese university I'll be sent home, and I have to deal with being estranged with my batch mates from both high school and college. (And maybe I won't have any batch mates when I return, because I'm the last batch of the old curriculum and the batch after me are still studying in senior high school! :arghh
But mostly, my trepidation comes from the fact that my father is near to his retirement, Not because of age but because he wants to go home after saving for a few years. He's an overseas worker, you see. And in my heart I would not want to impose a delay to his "retirement" because I'm repeating my tertiary education. I could force him to quit when the time comes and make myself self-sufficient while in Japan, but I doubt that would be, knowing my father.
So, if it may not be too bothersome, may I ask for knowledge that would soothe this worry? Just answering my first and only question (before all the drama) and it would already help me out a lot. :shy:

Well, unless you apply for Direct Placement, MEXT ultimately decides what university you'll take the entrance exams for. Even in Direct Placement, MEXT still has a say on what university you'll go to, depending on their evaluation of you (through grades, exams, interviews, and such) and your preferred university's capacity to take you.
But in the "traditional" path, MEXT decides which university you'll be most apt to attend depending your performances in Monbukagakusho qualifying exams, undergraduate preparatory school, previous grades from your previous school/s, among others. Even then, after they've endorsed you to several universities (which they think is) of your caliber, you'll still have to pass that university's entrance examinations.
So as much as rewarding this scholarship may seem, you have to prove several times your worth and capability. Because even if you were endorsed to top national universities because MEXT thinks you're up to those standards, you failing the university entrance examinations will warrant your sending back home.

Can you guys advise some decent reading material for B and C parts of Japanese exam, please? I'm currently studying Shin Kanzen Master N2 (New Perfect Master) Reading, but I don't feel like it'll be enough for the test as it's pretty difficult.

Is nuclear engineering a major field of study not under "other" offered in the scholarship, according to your sources?
The Toronto embassy's papers indicate that this is not an option, and it falls under "other".
I just want to know if it is a more distinct option for your embassy.
