MEXT Scholarship 2015 (Research Category): Anyone from the Philippines?

Hello, firearcher. I'm also from the Philippines and still waiting for the embassy email. I called the embassy last week to inquire when results would be out, and the staff told me that they will release it, hopefully, before the end of the month. We'll see. :)

And hey, why can't I PM you?

Hello twonavels. Thank you for the reply. I also called the embassy last week and was told that the results will be out this week. It's almost end of July. Have you heard from the embassy?

Not yet. Now, I'm getting nervous. Hehehe. Can you let me know when they contact you? Thanks, firearcher and good luck to us both! :)

Off topic but : Where are you studying in Phil and what are your majors?

Hello, tomoni. :-)

I actually graduated around 4 years ago. I've been working since then and is now looking forward to getting postgraduate degree. I wanted to study international law. Hopefully, I qualify for my chosen universities. Any tips on how I should go about getting a Letter of Acceptance? Thank you so much! :-)

Hello guys, how's your application? I'm going to try this year's Teacher Training scholarship from MEXT. Planning to submit my papers on saturday. Hope I will get a slot XD

Hello @mkrystn ! I received an email from the university that I am recommended and approved as a successful recipient of the MEXT Scholarship. This is good for the start of the Fall semester. Good luck to your application! Hope that you pass. :)

Hello fellow Filipinos!
I want to know when's the best time to contact my prospective university and MEXT scholarship?

Hello fellow Filipinos!

Hello @Luishi, in my experience by July, I already decided to apply for a scholarship at Tokyo Institute of Technology. I started contacting for professors around September. I had my Skype interview by end of October. Submitted the documents by end of November. My application for a slot in the university and MEXT scholarship were simultaneous.

What about if I aim to start in Oct 2016? Also, I have a question about the MEXT scholarship. I'm planning to apply for the research student scholarship but unfortunately, one of the requirements is that I need to continue my current research. As an Applied Physics student, my current research is in the environmental field but I'm really interested to take my master course in the aerospace engineering field at Tohoku U.

If you're aim is by Oct2016, then your timeline should be similar to mine. I am still in the Philippines right now and (hopefully) will be flying to Tokyo by last week of September to start by October. Regarding research student scholarship, I am not so sure about the technicalities. I am currently a student of MS in Chemical Engineering doing research on environmental life cycle assessment but I applied for an MS Bioengineering program in TokyoTech. Thank you!

Thank you for your answer, that gave me some assurance for the research scholarship. So the Philippine embassy opens the scholarship by July? Also, do the Japanese universities in entertain students that are not yet to graduate? Like I have two more semesters before graduating.

I would like some other things if it's alright, I want to know about the entrance exam and research proposal is required right? For the exam did you went to Japan to take the exam or we could take it in our country? For the research proposal I'm not quite sure on how I write it since I'll be shifting my research from environmental to aerospace.

Good luck to you Sir

There are two ways to apply: (1) through the embassy (2) through the university. I applied through the university so I have no idea how things are done if its through the embassy. Applying through the university is easier (I believe) because admission and scholarship application are done simultaneously. I didn't took any exam, though I was interviewed via Skype. My research proposal was like a 1-page thesis proposal and it doesn't have to be very detailed. I think it is important that you are able to establish the importance of your proposed study and cite some references for background. Also, when I applied, I was still writing my thesis proposal.

Thank you Sir, that's very informative. As for the university recommendation does my university need to have linkage with the Japanese university or regardless of it? Also, I have a question regarding GWA. Should I have a high GWA to be accepted? It bothers me because I'm not an outstanding student in my batch. I could say that I'm barely surviving during my first two years and my 3rd year is just average.

TokyoTech has good research linkage with my university here in Philippines. As a matter of fact, when a group of Japanese professors came to my university to orient us with their graduate programs, they advised as to use our university e-mail when communicating with them. So, I THINK, it somehow affects the application if your current university is linked with the university your are applying. Regarding GWA, as far as I could remember, the minimum GWA required to us is 2.75 in the American grading system. I think, that's a 2.00 in the Philippine grading system. Though, that's only for TokyoTech. Hmmm....I believe, each university has their own requirements.

Hm, I think I'll have some problems regarding GWA and as for the linkage, in my university we have Yokohama and Nagoya. Maybe I should contact first my prospective professor regarding my concerns :) Thanks a lot Sir! I'll post an update if whether I'm accepted in TohokuU with the MEXT scholarship or not sometime in the future.

Hello Green Archer!
I applied via University Recommendation too. And I'm still waiting for MEXT result. They said results would be posted by the end of June. How are you now?

Hello! I would like to know how to process MEXT through the university application. What are the procedures in applying through the university? I want to pursue seismic engineering and I'm listing the following universities as prospects: University of Tokyo, Kyoto University and Tohoku University. But my list is only on National Universities since I have not yet researched other universities that have specialized program on earthquake research. Maybe you have some ideas as well with regards this matter? Thank you very much.
