Publicized age disparate relationships

Singer Marc Anthony, 46 just married Shannon de Lima, 26 on November 11.

These things seem to come in chains sometimes. I was reading about Jeff Goldblum and that got me to reading about his ex, Geena Davis. And then I found:

Geena Davis, born 1956, is married to Reza Jarrahy, born 1971. A 15 year gap. They married in 2001.

Geena Davis and Reza Jarrahy

God. I can only hope that Big Brother Google is not offended by that cleavage. The human body is shameful, shameful thing in case you didn't know.

The forum does have to do with Japan , a place where you live. How about some posts to help members here with their questions or interesting posts about Japan . Your personal crusade/agenda to convince others you are right in your beliefs gets a bit boring after a while. Just my personal feelings.

"your beliefs gets a bit boring after a while"

No one twisted your arm to post here or read anything.

Plus I never claimed simple evidence was going to be exciting.

"How about some posts to help members here with their questions or interesting posts about Japan ."

That gets boring after a while. (cough)

Although I have done that recently.

How about some honest posts on the topic? You know, something not aimed at me, but at the topic...that is honest.

It may be hard to see the relevance of this one at first, but I suppose, at the very least, it might add some spice to those who may be "sick of the topic" despite adding nothing to it whatsoever.

Charles Manson, yes THE Charles Manson, 80, just got a marriage license, while in prison, and is planning to marry Afton Elaine Burton, 26. She has been trying to exonerate him for the past 9 years, which would have made her 16, 17 or 18 at the time, depending on how that figure is being counted.

I guess there is a question of whether teens are more susceptible to becoming nuts, or if nuts are just nuts all their lives. But I will say that if trauma and other emotions run deeper in youth, so does love. What exactly this woman is suffering from is anyone's guess. But she is 26 now and still at it.

Prior to about 22 years of age decision making in women is primarily a process performed in the amygdala, after that it migrates to the frontal lobe. Men take longer to move their decision making from emotional neural centers to logical neural centers, about 26 years of age on average.

So the age of marriage/and or dating for women should be 22 and the age of marriage and/or dating for men should be 26? Is that what you are saying?

Are you saying those who did so early and made a good decision were merely lucky? Cause it seems to me that as people are marrying later, the divorce rate is going up. Coincidence? Or is this not really about "decision making" like one solves a math problem, or chooses a job, a plan for the day, or an automobile?

What exactly is a good dating or marriage decision, and how do we know a good decision was made? Via brain scan?

And how come us over those ages cannot look at a couple and say with more certainty if it will fail (whatever it means to fail) and when?

Personally, I don't think is much to do with certain specific parts of the brain.

Further, people may make bad choices about things, such as food. That does not mean they should not eat at all until it is deemed they can make better decisions.

"[a whole lot of conjecture] Is that what you're saying?"

You read a lot into a posting with basic explanation of neurological functions.

You also don't seem to have a grasp of what 'decision making' is from a cognitive science standpoint. I'm not sure what organ you think does impact decision making, if not the brain... The spleen??

Additionally, you use "It seems to me..." as if somehow your observance or guess as to divorce statistics changing has either any bearing or even veracity.

I have no idea how you got the idea that I have (or care about) opinions about any of this.

My wife is nearly ten years younger than I am. When people hear this, they say, "Oh that's not so much." She looks so youthful, however, that when strangers see us they sometimes stare, probably wondering if she's my adopted daughter. (Conversely, I had a half-Korean gf who looked totally Korean, and when she had meals out with her white father, people stared, wondering if they were lovers).

One mentally ill guy repeatedly yelled "pedophile!" at me one night. I said "Yeah, right" and left him behind, but the wife turned around and confronted him. He ended up apologizing when he found out she was in her thirties. :-)

My first wife was older than me.

Wikipedia says
At the age of 25, Muhammad married the wealthy Khadijah bint Khuwaylid who was 40 years old.[222] The marriage lasted for 25 years and was a happy one.[223]

You posted here!!

You read a lot into a posting with basic explanation of neurological functions.

I mostly only asked questions. That made it so all you had to do was say yes, or say no and explain.

What was the relevance of your post to this thread? That is very, very simple question. Its at the crux of the issue. Could you just explain that?

I'm not sure what organ you think does impact decision making, if not the brain... The spleen??

My issue is not with the brain, but the claim that SPECIFIC parts of the brain require SPECIFIC alterations to make good decisions about.....well....you didn't say.

@alecgraham you have both my sympathy and support.

There are far too many presumptive ijits in this world.

I hope you never meet another one, and I hope your marriage remains happy.

Thank you for your input.

You wrote:

I supplied information relating to that. I did not claim the brain had to be altered, I just noted what happens neurologically during the timeframe you said there was "some question about."

I made no mention of any opinions.

Okay. I will point out that Manson's fiance is 26 now, four years past 22, and her decision remains unchanged.

My opinion boils down to the idea that she was nuts to begin with. I suppose one could also figure she has a disorder preventing the usual brain development, but I just don't think these things are so simple, or simply explained. Whatever link there is between brain part development and decision making, its all guesswork and pseudo science at this point even if the fact of the brain structure changes are fact.

What part of the research you read did you evaluate as "guesswork and pseudo science?" Which specific studies?

I ask because it appears that you don't seem to have any real concept of neural development since you keep talking about structural changes in regards to this as opposed to neural activity changes.

I will only answer such questions that require massive detailed responses in a thread directly related. This thread is not the place. I direct you to the original post.

I asked you to list the studies you've read since you made an outrageous claim about current neuroscience.

I guess writing out the titles of a few (though I suspect you're just blowing smoke about having looked at the relevant literature) is somehow a 'massive detailed response.'

I'm in a deeply personal relationship with one woman who is 42 years younger than I am...,

...and also another, who is 38 years younger.

(hey, you said "age disparate relationships", and said nothing about them being familial, rather than marital) :)

Sorry Wonko. I totally failed to write down all the names of the relevant studies I read about. What was I thinking? You also asked for explanations (or did you forget?) That would require a lot of typing. You want answers? Open a thread or wait until I do. Now excuse me before I get rude. That is warning two.

Well, there is always hope!

Ewwwwwwww! Hey. You walked right into that one! 😄

Thomas Jefferson, my favorite president hands down, began a sexual relationship with his slave Sally Hemings when he was about 46 and she was about 16. No one knows exactly when, but it was after his wife died. Many would say Sally was Black, but I find that highly annoying in its utter inaccuracy and racist slant. In fact she was mixed race, like President Obama and Tiger Woods both of whom are often foolishly referred to as "Black". Sally's mother was also mixed race and her father was John Wayles, father of Jefferson's deceased wife Martha.

They had six children out of wedlock, four of whom survived into adulthood. Their youngest son was Eston Hemmings, who was freed from slavery in Jefferson's will and later changed his last name to Jefferson and successfully joined the white community. Eston's oldest son (Thomas's grandson) was John Wayles Jefferson, who had red hair and grey eyes like Thomas, and he rose to the rank of colonel in the Union army during the American Civil War.

And that is not remotely all. You could pretty much write a book about the family history. But I will stop there.

Another gift from Mike Cash:

Nat King Cole got into a relationship with Gunilla Hutton around the time he was ill with lung cancer. They lived together. I have not exact dates, but around 1964. Cole was born in 1919 and Hutton in 1944, meaning about 25 years age difference and he was about 45 and she 20.

And all hail Miss Hutton. It must have taken almighty guts for the Swedish born woman to date and live with Cole in America in the 1960s.

Racism. Ageism. All the same to me.

She is on the left below.

I asked what part of the research, which can be satisfied by a list of studies... About four words if you've even read one study, which you obviously haven't.

Warning about what? Are you making some bizarre threat??

You are a strange bird. You post saying there is some question about psychology, I respond to clarify with some basic science, and you somehow turn it into a surreal argument by inferring with questions a ton of opinions from my post.

Then you say the equivalent of "electricity is just pseudoscience and guess work" about the basic neuroscience I posted to help clear up your questions and you get offended when I ask what research you've read which lets you completely dismiss well established foundational principles in neurological development with decades of solid research.

If you haven't gotten rude yet, I shudder to think what you do consider rude.
