Fukushima Manga Causes Government Outrage, Put On Hold By Publisher - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Probably (hopefully) there is much deeper discussion of this in Japanese news.

The comic has characters based on real life academics stating ツ"You simply can't decontaminate a wide area in Fukushima and make it a place where people can live againツ" and claiming that hundreds of people in the town of Osaka had been affected by an incinerator burning tsusami debris that was radioactive.

Earlier in the week, the Fukushima council posted that the ツ"feelings of the Fukushima people were totally ignored and deeply hurtツ" and that ツ"the depiction could severely damage the agriculture, forestry, fisheries and tourism industriesツ" before issuing a formal protest against the publisher over the nosebleed scene.

I really don't trust the government of Fukushima, which has consistently proclaimed it's safe, when it's almost inconceivable that it would be. Time and again, when there is a scandal, the government (of most countries in the world, not just Japan) try to stamp out dissenting opinion. In this case, the publisher has buckled and is not printing the book for the time being. I hope the Fukushima and Osaka governments believe what they're saying 100%; if not, that's harikiri-quality shameful lying.

How would one go about finding out the extent to which it is being covered in Japanese news?

(What is needle cutting quality?)

It looks like we are going to be living in Ibaraki Prefecture ... not too far from the Fukushima plant. I'm reading as much as I can manage about it (although sorting through the conspiracy theories and shock horror stories to find the truth is not easy)!!

The freezing of the ground under and around the plant is amazing from a technical and scientific point of view, but it will be ridiculously expensive to maintain and I'm not so confident it will be anything other than a short term solution.

The risk of contamination is not something I'm overly concerned about, but it is the only dark cloud on my Japanese horizon at this stage!

I don't know the distance from Ibaraki to there, but I would be concerned about eating food from the prefecture. Luckily produce is generally labelled wherever you go.

The government keeps claiming it's business as usual, and scandal after scandal has already appeared. It's not worth your health to trust them.

I will certainly be checking the labels of food for it's source. My biggest worry is fresh produce.

I will also be using bottled water for drinking and cooking.

This is my last warning: if those childish escapades don't stop I will use my admin privileges to stop them. I'm sick of closing threads, editting posts and babysitting disruptive members. You're doing a disservice to yourself and to the forum. I will not tolerate the latter!

I will be more than happy to go back to completely ignoring def in every way, just as I was doing when I started posting again after my absence. But I hope that it will also be expected he refrain from antagonistic comments.

Mike, I was addressing both of you. If it's beyond you to respect each other in the most basic sense then at least do the other members of the forum a favour and stay away from each other or resort to PMs.

One more word, Mike: your efforts to help members are appreciated, but I ask you to refrain from adding gratuitous comments to your posts that just cause further conflict. Sarcasm and acerbic ripostes are neither constructive nor helpful. We want to assist new members, not chase them away. So yes, even a Wikipedia link is helpful, blaming other members not to do the same, isn't.

Personally, I wish I had more time to actively contribute and post, but currently I hardly find enough time to manage the forum.

Therefore gentlemen, please keep it civil, we're all in the same boat.

And sorry for derailing this thread, back OT!
