Your are forcing your tolerance.

This one of the most bizarre sentences I have ever read. Are you trolling??? Force tolerance! And call it self-righteous! My God! The day the world starts discriminating against Australians, I am sure we will hear you whining about how tolerance should be forced on the world!

Man, you must have one easy life to spout this garbage! I wish you I could wave a magic wand and turn you into an Aboriginal. You might start talking right after a year.

You are self righteous to think that everyone should be like you and follow the so called masses in your endeavor of creating the "perfect world"

No one is telling you to be like anyone, or anyone else! You can be a bigot, just be a bigot in private and don't violate anyone's rights.

Follow the masses? Nobody suggested that either!

"I come from a land down under, where politicians spin their spin and people are just to darn PC to actually stand by their beliefs,
Preferring to be guided by a nanny state. Much like Canada I presume."

In fact, YOU are the one arguing for oppressive government. Why not let other people live their lives, with the same rights you have, while you live yours?

"Thanks for letting me have my opinion as much as it dicusts you."

You're free to have opinions, but when they intrude and oppress others, you can expect to get objections. Other people have the right to opinions (e.g., disgust at yours) too.

"Your are forcing your tolerance. You are self righteous to think that everyone should be like you and follow the so called masses in your endeavor of creating the "perfect world"
Good luck"

So who's trying to force you into a gay marriage? Or force your church to conduct one?

What's worse: forcing tolerance, or forcing intolerance on others?

You've certainly got your buzzwords down pat :D
It's not that people are too PC to stand by beliefs, it's that they actual believe in treating people equally. You don't. But you can't be confused why people want to have an equal society, rather than go back to the good ol' days when might made right and the ruling class dictated the lives of the others.
You've illuminated a lot about where you're coming from though. Thanks.
Buzz words? Which ones? I give you one guess as to where I'm from?

i.e. PC, nanny state.

The phrase, "where you're coming from" is an idiom, and not based on your home country. It says that I get your point of view, even if I don't agree with it.

If you say "down under," well, that's actually a reference to Australia. If you're not from there, then you're using the language incorrectly. But it is irrelevant, since I know where you're coming from. You were happier in the past.

There is nothing wrong with forcing tolerance in the public arena.

I swear, I can hear a bunch of resurrected White Southern slave owners complaining about being forced to tolerate free Blacks in the world, marrying Whites, learning to read, and owning property while demanding they should be free to oppress those Blacks or its really not a free or fair country, its just biased toward Blacks and intolerance of White Southern slave owners!

Its utterly preposterous!

There you go again with your assumptions, I gave you one guess earlier.

Down under does not refer to just Australia. Where do you get this information?

You have gone way off topic, are you talking about gay rights to marriage? Or does every example have to be directed to American History?

Troll? Insane? Don't know. Don't care. All I know is that I am done with someone here.

Why is it when a poster disagrees with another poster and a compromise isn't found, the "troll" insane comments come out. It's like throwing all your toys out of the sandpit.
Weird!

Good to see you gave up you crusade. You started the post remember.
So this thread is close now?

Sorry, you're right. It apparently means New Zealand too. In North America it generally means Australia. Down Under - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I will be careful when speaking to kiwis in the future ;)
Cheers! I think the correct term would be antipodian , to include all those people from those tiny islands down that way.

Some people just enjoy making trouble and giving other people headaches. It gives them a smile to know that some people are oppressed and in pain, or troubled, as they are naturally, deep down inside. Some people are just evil. They think they are funny. But they aren't. They think they are clever, but they aren't that either.

And they keep talking trying to talk to you, even after you have turned your back on them, knowing what they are.

As Zorro already pointed out, you open up a can of worms if you try and justify resisting legalizing gay marriage by calling it "forcing tolerance." It's not "forcing tolerance", it's obeying the Golden Rule. What exactly is there to "tolerate" about gay marriage anyway? Does the idea of two gay people being legally married really discomfort you so much that you feel you have to "tolerate" it, even though it may never affect you in any way?

This forum is heavily liberal, that in no way proves that your argument is supported by a nation.

Its interesting that the poll is pretty close to the percentages in America as of last year.

For First Time, Majority of Americans Favor Legal Gay Marriage

Meanwhile, liberals supported gay marriage at 78 percent last year.

Casts a big shadow of doubt on this forum being heavily liberal.

14 people vote and you start using it for stats, it's a very narrow range if people given the age, education and gender of the majority of people who visit this site. I wouldn't read into the result too much.
Just out of interest ,What's the margin of error?

In case somebody gets confused, my last post was totally in response to the quote I quoted, about this forum being heavily liberal, so don't go reading into it things that aren't there. (sigh)

At least the BrianLewises and Tsuchis here can take comfort that they are supported by the Saudi and Pakistani members here. Maybe they should consider relocating?

Not so tolerant after all, sounds like you have prejudice against those nationalities or people with similar beliefs.
You should be careful with your style of racial profiling it kind of contradicts a lot of your post that talk of tolerance.

I'm very tolerant. But it's undeniable that there are areas of the world that are more egalitarian than others. It would be foolish to claim otherwise. I welcome people of these nationalities to proclaim they support equality, and look forward to it.
Americans in Japan I know have had to explain that they don't support the Iraq war a number of times to people they meet (especially in its heyday) because it's their country. As a Canadian, nobody has ever asked me the same. Call it racial profiling if you want, but I think you're being too PC in saying so.

Smelly racist post here, If you like to have sex with men then go for it and don't ask us to accept it, Just not in Saudi Arabia or Pakistan.

It's racist to say homosexuality isn't tolerated in some Middle Eastern and West Asian countries? Now that's just being over-sensitive on your part. You just said the same thing in your post.

There is absolutely nothing for you to accept about gay sex. You don't want any, you don't get any. If you see it happening, leave.

Even with legally registered gay marriage, there would be little for you to accept. You would have to accept the fact that you cannot stone them on sight or commit acts of hate and violence against them. If you were an employer, you would not be able to refuse employment for having a gay marriage. If you were a tax man, you would have to accept that they have a same-sex dependent. Are you a tax man or employer? If not, then all you have to do is not be violent or hateful. If you don't want them as friends or coming to your house for dinner, fine. Hard to call that acceptance, when you can still wave your Koran at them and swear they will burn in hell.

And no, def was not being racist or even bigotted. He was pointing to M.E. culture, not race, and he was correct. You are proving it.

This was not intolerance. This was simply a suggestion to live in a place that may be more tolerable to some people, as the places they live now are leaning toward tolerance not liked by some. Why not? You don't like this restaurant, someone may suggest a different one.

I totally support someone going to the M.E. to experience their degrees of tolerance first hand, if one thinks we do it wrong here in the west.

GL people.

Hezam, I think the point naha was trying to make is that it is obvious in Middle Eastern countries that gay marriage is not tolerated very well. If you think this is racist, then why the heck do you seemingly support this stereotype by saying such things as:

Hazam said:

On the one hand you don't want us to stereotype or racially profile Middle Eastern countries as being bigoted towards homosexuals, yet at the same time you enforce this stereotype?? This is very confusing for me...

As the saying goes, "You can't have your cake and eat it, too."
