In this sentence, both "to reserve on Friday" and "to reserve for Friday" are possible. But, as for 母の日, a special day, the interpretation as "to reserve for Mother's day" would be more common.;-)

It's got to be the English talking, but if it were me reserving "on Mother's day" it may have been weirder. With 母の日には instead of 母の日に、as a light contrast to that particular day for an act which would normally come beforehand. That was all, the whole confusion.
