Japanese Anime for leaning linguo

I'm sure there'll be a couple of ppl that think this is a pretty sad way to learn Japanese, but so far its been an awesome way to learn for me.

Was just wondering if anyone had found something they reckon would be good to learn to or if they had something with a good story line?

As soon as I encounter somebody who has learned Japanese well from anime I'll start to have a better opinion of its use as a primary learning resource.

In another thread you indicate difficulty with understanding "Neko ga sakana o tabemashita", so I would suggest that it is way too early in your Japanese acquisition for you to form the opinion that it has been an "awesome" (or even "adequate") asset for you.

I agree with Mike totally.


"Anime dake" to iu no ha imi ga nai shi, manabu koto ga dekinai to omoimasu. ("Only anime" doesn't make sense. It it isn't possible to learn this way.)


Nihongo no kyoukasho ga nakattara, kihontekina bunpou wo benkyou dekinai deshoune. (Without a textbook you cannot learn basic grammatical Japanese.)

Hey, I learned my Japanese from anime! Well, I took it in high school first to build a foundation, then after that I didn't have any opportunity to further my learning in Japanese, so I decided to start translating anime (participating in the so-called "fansubs"). But there aren't many Japanese people in my area, so I can't really practice speaking it often. My interest and passion in learning and actually wanting to be fluent in it really helped, though. I think that's the most important, no matter what medium you are learning from. (Another factor, might be a little out there, is that: zensei wa ninhonjin datta kamoshirenai kara, it's in my genes! haha).

ima wa kiku no to yomu no to anmari mondai nai'n dakedo, hanasu no wa chotto... (I can understand and read Japanese for the most part now, but speaking it is a bit [challenging].)
