Global warming...what to do?

I think we could help our planets resources and stop polluting it by limiting packaging. I just bought my month of allergy pills, the bottle could hold a years supply! Why do we need to waste so much? I certainly don't need the packaging. Yes, it is recyclable and we do recycle, but why make such a big bottle for 30 little pills? As for global warming, I do think something is going on...I do think it's man made. Yes the planets temperature rises and decrease on it's own, but this is the fastest it's ever risen. Makes you wonder....

There's also been a nuclear mishap at a plant in Japan, but that was due to very poor maintenence. Personally, I'm all for less consumption in general, just cause while global warming is contraversial, there are still a lot of other definite environmental issues that are caused by how we produce the things that we consume, and possibly some other environmental issues that we may not be aware of yet. I believe that we can maintain a near to current level of comfort given the continuous advances in technology that are made everyday. I was just reading that car batteries are improving 8% every year, making electric cars more and more feasible.

Hello ArmandV,
I don't want to argue with you (or with anyone here) but only to seriously discuss. So i would like to answer some of your previous posts.
"There you go again!"
Likewise, I am sure you are able to round up plenty of alarmist "chicken littles" with their cries of doom & gloom and more government regulations and taxes. But the facts don't support the doom & gloomers.

Ok.Nice use of sentimental expressions like "cries" or "chicken littles".However, so that you know they are not "chicken littles" or crybabies but scientists. They just do research and give facts.
Furthermore, as strange as it seems these facts you presented with the colder winters are just supporting the concept of global warming.Global warming is causing a lot of temperature anomalies. In other words , very large "distance" in temperature with a lot of very hot summers and a lot of very cold winters. It's also causing a lot of physical destructions more intense than the ones at the past (i.e. typhoons). So, you can't say there is no global warming since you can't present more trustworthy and accurate examples and facts.
Don't forget that everything has a cost.Nothing is earned without consequences and the consequences of the human advance is the global warming and other environmental problems.

Obviously, you didn't read my posts carefully enough. Please re-read them and then comment.

I did read your previous posts carefully and i want to tell you that scientists have proven that global warming is human made situation.Besides , answer me this : do you think that ,when so many cars, motos, etc spread gas and carbon dioxide in the air every day , when people throw away large quantities of garbage in the earth soil , when tens of thousands of trees get cut (and burned in summer) , e.t.c , then those actions have no absolutely effect on the earth?

"Sun Blamed For Warming Earth and Other Worlds"

As is stated in the above link, the Sun is to be blamed for the so-called warming of the earth as, not only the earth, but the other planets are heating up as well right on out to Neptune ans Pluto! Are greenhouse gasses causing their warming also?

This last sunspot cycle has produced an unusual phenomenon and that is there are no sunspots! Some speculate this is the cause for the warming and the unusual weather we are receiving.

Also, it has been proved that there were more greenhouse gasses put into the atmosphere by the explosion of Mt St Helens and Mt Pinatubo in the Phillipines than all the greenhouse gasses produced on earth since the beginning of the industrial revolution!

And what about the past? Our history of weather only goes back a hundred years or so, so who is to know what happened on earth during the last ice age or eons before that? Was anyone there to prove it? During the great Dustbowl of the 1930's where parts of Oklahoma and Texas were turned to dust and forced the evacuation of thousands was anything mentioned of global warming?

I believe it is a natural phenomenon and that the earth is going through cycles as it did countless of times in the past. This talk and fear mongering by environmentalists is just that. Just be on the lookout for a world-wide so-called "Carbon Tax" to counter the effects of the phony global warming. The truth is that this so-called tax will be used to finance the coming global government ("Uh oh! There he goes again!") much the same as the phony Aids money that the US just yesterday agreed to donate about $30 billion dollars to Africa. Does any sane person think that much money will solve the aids crisis in Africa? And why only Africa? Why not use it in Europe and/or the US and other countries? Because it is a bunch of BS where little if any will be used in the fight against aids.

With all this money and the $10 billion donated by Bill Gates and the $10 billion donated by Ted Turner, there still has been no significant improvement in aids prevention or the lessening of it in Africa as most of it is going into the coffers of the IMF and the World Bank for the expansion of global government.

Wake up and start doing some reading besides what the phony news nedia shoves down your ever-believing throats. It's amazing how some people fail to think on their own and will swallow anything they read or hear from the major media.

Global Warming?: A farce IMO that unfortunately way too many have accepted as gospel because someone made a phony documentary about it and the major media fail to report on the 50,000+ scientists who have so far come forward to disprove it.

"The Great Global Warming Swindle"

- Earth's 4.5 billion year history is one long story of climate change. There were several periods in history, notably the Medieval Warm Period and the Holocene Maximum, which were much warmer than today. In the 17th century, Europe experienced the Little Ice Age, where temperatures were so consistently chilly that ice skaters revelled on the completely frozen London Thames.

- From the 1940's until the 1980's, the Earth experienced a significant cooling period, despite the fact that industrial production and release of CO2 vastly accelerated during this time. This led to political and media scaremongering about global cooling , the threat that the earth was in the midst of a new ice age. The documentary featured telling clips from alarmist documentaries at the time that implored us to try and reverse the trend of worldwide temparature decrease or face meterological apocalypse.

- The human contribution to carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is minimal in comparison to other natural means, including volcanic emmission and CO2 produced by animals, bacteria, decaying vegetation and the ocean. The human "carbon footprint" is vastly outweighed by all of these factors.

What you are saying is, at the least ,provocative for everyone that hasn't the same opinion as you.You must accept that there are other opinions and beliefs other than yours .Furthermore ,you don't even know everyone that has other opinions than you (especially in the internet). You don't even know if the people you refer to (rudely) ("wake up etc") are scientists or people who have read some books (other than yours) . How can you say that you are more informed and your opinion counts more than anyone here(indirectly)? This is a discussion and in the discussion , we discuss.Sometimes maybe we agree , sometimes maybe not .
As for your opinion , i cannot answer securely since i haven't read or search about the increased sun action and its "roots" but i believe that the human actions are more to blame for the global warming.

"The Great Global Warming Swindle"
Unfortunatly there is just TOO much nonesense science in that post...
let's just start with the oh too simple!
volcanic expolosions DO NOT HAVE An INSULATING effect on the planet.
they cool it down not heat it up.
also i think one can safely say that the source from which you got this information (that mt st. helens produced more co2 than all of humanity since the industrial revolution)
....is a site full of nonesense.
i'm not even going to dignify this complete and utter tripe with evidence...
common sense should be enough...and if it isn't...YOU need to go back to school.
as for the other quasi conspiracy theory BS you are coming up with....
no one is doing anything to combat AIDS in Africa huh?
well why don't you tell that to my cousin who is about to spend 3 months at one of MANY aids research labs that are open in Africa...
and why in africa...because most of the people WHO have AIDS.,...are african!
that's why my cousin goes there...because she can get her hands on lots and lots of samples!
hmmm yes i guess she must be part of this conspiracy then?
you dumb-puck
oh jesus save us..... i can't even begin to cut apart this complete JOKE of science..
where did you find this crap....the OPEC website?
if you believe EVEN one part of what you have written there then you are a VERY stupid individual..VERY STUPID INDEED
wow you probably believe that Roswell was aliens rite?
WOW
i don't know...this is a joke right?
you are trying to be funny...is that it?
you are trying your hat at sarcasm?
i gettit....ha ha ha....your not REALLY retarded enough to believe any of that...your just pretending...
except your not
you MONG!

I base my beliefs on the countless hours of alternative reading I do in seeking out what is exactly the truth. From the looks of some of the posts here, almost no one has done any research except to spout what the major media is saying.

What about the 50,000+ scientists who say Al Gore is wrong and that the whole Global Warming thing is a farce or the documentary linked above and the link by ArmandV? I hear no one referring to them including yourself who admits, "I cannot answer securely since I haven't read or search about the increased sun action and its "roots but I believe that the human actions are more to blame for the global warming"

How can you say "humans are more to blame" when you have done no alternate research to find out the truth and even admit it? Sure it may be your opinion, but please do not try to convince me it is fact or the absolute truth withouit any links to research to back up your opinion.

I've given you a few links to look at for yourself and I can provide more. If you refuse to look at them and comment on them (much as the scientists and religious leaders in Galileo's day refused to look into the telescope or those that were convinced that the earth was flat), then that is your prerogative. The main belief to date, and one that seems to be in the majority so far and which the media are not reporting on, remains that humans are not the major contributor to global warming and that the sun is the major factor.

Until you understand the "agenda" for this farce, your opinion will probably never change, but I am just pointing you to alternate opinions and research. Whether you believe them or even read them is your choice. Based on experience, most will not.

You can call me names and insult me if it excites you AlphaDuck, but you like many others fail to understand the underlying agenda of these lies and farces that you willing accept and I will not even comment opn your assinine reply. Believe what you will and want. Like abortion and religious debates people will only believe what they want to bvelieve and will "not look into the telescope" and will persecute anyone who believes other than what is most popular for the day.

Like proving the earth was round or that the earth was not the center of the universe, only history and time will tell. I will not comment further.

@Pachipro said : "but please do not try to convince me it is fact or the absolute truth withouit any links to research to back up your opinion."

Until now i coundn't give any url here because i was below 20 posts...
Anyway , when i pass the 20 posts i will try and give you some urls...
And something else , just because you are at the minority who believe that "things" and i am at the majority who think that global warming is human made , that doesn't make you special or your opinion doesn't count more than everyone else's .

One final note, why do you think nuclear power is frowned upon and many "environmentalists"/people in government are against it when it is the cleanest and safest forms of clean power in the world? Why are the third world nations forbidden to impliment and develop their own forms of alternative energy? It's not because they can't afford it or get loans for it.

What about hydrogen or wind or LPG or natural gas? Why do major governments do not propose these forms of alternative, clean energy and impliment them if global warming and CO2 is such a hazard to the earth? Could it be they want to keep the world addicted to oil? And who controls the worlds oil supply and the price? The middle East? NOT! Look it up! But then again you may be afraid to "look into the telescope."

It's just like the "War on Terror" for, if there really was a war on terror in the US our boarders would've been sealed on Sept 12th, but they remain open. Hmmmm.

It's amazing how many people shoot and trounce on the messenger when it goes against their heartfelt beliefs even though there is truth to it.

Take away the hype of human-caused global warming, concentrate on eliminating all forms of pollution and seriously developing more forms of alternative energy without telling me it is my fault and that I now have to pay another tax, and I'll be willing to listen and take it seriously, but until that day comes (not in my lifetime) I will continue calling it what it is: A Hoax for another tax.

for the fact that my post was somewhat offensive i apologise....

i understand MORE THAN MOST and even MORE THAN THE FEW...that mainstream media is but the mouthpiece of something else..(which i am NOT going to go into)

While it is GOOD to do some alternative reading....one needs to be carefull about sources...

Volcanic eruptions do not release greenhouse gasses...(yes obviosly SOME greenhouse gas is released but this is negligable compared to the other gasses and elements involved in a large scale mt st. helens eruption)

there was one thing that was correct...yes lots of greenhouse gases are released by animals...namely cows....but those cows are being supported by humans, for humans.

Yes i agree...as i have posted earlier... that Nuclear Power is a safe and clean form of power...however the step from a traditional power plant...to a plant where the 'waste' is weaponised plutonium is a very small one...
we do not want dodgy countries such as Iran to get there hands on plutonium.

while one needs to remain sceptical....and you would be quite correct that things are not as they would seem...i don't think you have a full sense of what DOES make the world tick...i don't want to highjack my own thread but it is worth noting that both the USA and the United Nations started with the goal of creating a 'New World Order'....

the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks are NOT something anyone (bar mr laden)planned,
while there is evidence to fuel certain conspiricy theories....there is NO CONCLUSIVE TRUTH in these matters,
there are hints of evidence that those that be had something else planned for the sept 11th cell...but certainly not what actually happened...
as it was only needed as an excuse to pass terrorism legislation...they didn't actually want to start a war in Afghanistan

as for why Afghanistan got invaded.... those that be in power do NOT like to be double crossed...and will happily invade an entire nation to exact thier revenge and set an example.

as for borders remaining open....IF you change your lifestyle, out of fear/terror of terrorists/ism...then the terrorists have by definition WON!

as for global warming.... i'm afraid that it truly IS a mostly man made phenomenon...

however just because it's man made does not mean that it is in man's interests to stop it....there are those who have control and who already plan to cull the worlds population....when the warming hits....billions will die...and those in the west (who tried hard with pointless CO2 fighting things)

will be able to say that there hands are clean....and what a terrible shame it is that all those people died...while the ensuing chaos will alow the already tight grip to tighten....

your cynacism for the mainstream media is to be comended....but remember that not every theory holds water

look into what i have said.... research the VERY birth of your country....take a look at the money you hold in your wallet....

but hey lets not get too "off-Topic"
the question that this thread was started on was a moral one...
and i will thus rephrase it...

(regardless of the root cause,)
should resources and money be dedicated to trying to prevent global warming....or to deal with the after effects when it 'hits'?
and if the latter were done would that be moraly right, as billions will die if it does 'hit' ?

What you are saying is, at the least ,provocative for everyone that hasn't the same opinion as you.

That's the pot calling the kettle "black" if I've ever seen one.

Some people can't seem to handle the fact that not everyone is swallowing Al Gore's science fiction.

U r absolutely right, i have same thinking on this issue.

That's the pot calling the kettle "black" if I've ever seen one.
Some people can't seem to handle the fact that not everyone is swallowing Al Gore's science fiction.

Maybe you read that phrase and stopped reading then , but if you continue reading my post you will see that ,what i mean , is that you can't "mock" other people's opinion if it is different from yours (like Pachipro did).I am a very open minded person and i try to view the truth by others' "angle" before creating an opinion (that maybe is another than theirs).

Some people can't seem to handle the fact that not everyone is swallowing Al Gore's science fiction.

When did i say that i "can't seem to handle the fact that not everyone is swallowing Al Gore's science fiction"??In fact , i don't care if you people have a different opinion than me .I just don't care. However ,what i care about is learning others people opinions and discuss. I don't have this kind of "complex" .

Anyway , i think we are going "off-topic" here (even though i tried not to personally insult anyone here) . The real question of this topic is what is said in the first post. I say prevention is the best medicine .

Lol. If the sun were responsible for any real indications of global warming on outer planets like Jupiter or especially Pluto, even someone like myself who is not particularly schooled in the science can deduce that the earth would be like a giant blow torch at this point. 😌 Besides, this is a very selective reading of the data. Is a rise in temperature happening uniformly, on every planet, hundreds of moons and other objects in the solar system ?

I agree that with everything we humans are doing on this planet - cutting down forests, overfishing the oceans, spilling oil, polluting the air - there have got to be consequences that we're not fully aware of yet. We've been destroying the earth at a fast rate, and we need to learn that we can't do that without having a negative impact. There are more frequent and stronger storms (like hurricanes), and tornadoes in places where they've never had them before.

But all of our opinions are valuable - please let's not insult each other. I'm interested in the sun spot explanation as much as any other explanation. None of us are "idiots" - we're all just trying to figure out where we fit in in all this.

This is a news story about the Antarctic ice melting even in winter (for the southern hemisphere). The ice caps melting is a scary thought.

31,00 Scientists Reject "Global Warming" Agenda.
31,000 scientists reject 'global warming' agenda
Just so no one gets the impression these Oregon signatories are true climatologists who submit peer reviewed materials and have actually studied the problem, that petition was circulated in a bulk mailing to tens of thousands of individuals around the country. The only credentials necessary to sign it was that you must have an undergraduate degree in science. And only very rarely does a working scientist stop at a BS or MS without going on for a PhD in a related field.

Also included in the mailing was an unpublished paper by eccentric scientist/sponsor Arthur Robinson, along with several other non-climate change researchers, attempting to show pumping CO2 into the atmosphere is actually a good thing. An assertion and data that has been thoroughly debunked by those in the field. The entire project was and continues to be an obvious effort at political manipulation spearheaded by a non-expert from Oregon with a long history of fringe credentials and associations...

Now, now, Elizabeth, you mustn't try to inject any objective reality into the thread. All that True Patriots need to know is that heinous liberals acknowledge the existence of human-exacerbated climate change, so True Patriots must insist that it isn't happening, because a True Patrior must always oppose heinous liberals. Ideological Soundness must always trump obective reality. True Patriots must always project their own faults onto others.

Whatever the cause, I'm convinced that global climate change is indeed occuring. My take on it is that even if the main cause is not man-made, we should do whatever we can to slow down or lessen the effects of this change, because the eventual consequences will be extremely disruptive to human civilization as it currently exists.

Having said that, in my own personal life, I care more about saving money than the environment. I guess it's a happy coincidence that less consumption translates to less of an environmental impact.

I agree that climate change is occuring and there will be little that man can do to prevent it. Man can completely get off CO2 emitting fuels, go completely "green" with natural fuels, and climate change will still occur as it is a natural phenomenon. However, that DOES NOT mean we should continue to use fossil fuels as they are bad for the health and the environment, but I still hold that they do not add to climate change. I still believe that the natural warming of the oceans, changing currents and winds, and the sun do that. Heck, it has already been proved that Egypt used to be a near tropical place with rainfall. Today it is a desert. Was that due to CO2?

Also, since oil and such is such a money maker for the elite corporations and the rich of this planet, I doubt very much we will stop using them which tells me that man is not the cause because, IF MAN WERE THE CAUSE and were indeed changing the climate, the nations of the world would be on a mad scramble to impliment other forms of energy before it destroys the planet. Does anyone see that happening? I don't.

Just be on the lookout for a world-wide "carbon tax" and that will tell you what they really want. It's all about the transfer of wealth from the lower echelons to the upper.
