So, I'm tired of all these mindless threads, such as last post wins, or why should you be banned. This may or may not be taken the wrong way, but here goes nothing. What's on your mind right now? Please post in complete sentences. Let's have a semi-intelligent discussion for once in Chit Chat & Misc.

I'm currently thinking about if I'll remember to put this Proactiv garbage on my face before I go to bed, and if I should upgrade my computer's RAM from 2 GB to 4 GB.

Well, while we have had, and do have some threads of a more serious, deeper and philosophical nature in this area of Chit-Chat and Misc., the number of members who are in a position to keep up with, or are interested in such a thread, seem to be far too few to keep such near the top, or even on the front page.

What's on my mind? Magic. How to escape from a box, after having been handcuffed, wrapped in chains, and having had the box screwed shut, totally unharmed and without a scratch. Of course...it need not be a literal box, nor literal anything else, but it is, nevertheless, the same thing.

Just waiting for anything that I am interested to pop up, or something I might be able to reply too.

In the serious world of today, I've always found the more lighthearted threads to be a stress reliever, but to each his own, I suppose. 👍

I could never remember to do all those tasks before bed, and I still don't do half of what I'm supposed to. Flossing was always a "once every other day" thing, if I remembered. 😌 I also reccomend the RAM upgrade, as it almost always helps. (unless you happen to recieve a faulty product, as I have on one singular occasion)

Mars Man - I've pondered along those same lines once or twice myself. How does one go about accomplishing the impossible?

As to what's on my mind at the moment - If humans are all similar, then most of us must think many similar thoughts, therefore, is it possible that anything that you can think of has been thought of by countless others before and will be thought by countless others afterwards? Is it possible that our own uniqueness is what causes us all to be similar? To quote my old wrestling coach: "You're special, just like everyone else"

Any thoughts on this? (sorry, but I was in a random mood and I let my mind wander😌)

Well, before that, let me express a concern. . . just how much rum had Dutch Baka san had when he made that above post? A bit concerned. . . that's all.

OH yes...the similarity with the difference--like those fingerprints, each 'brain print' is different. But, like we all have fingers...and most usually 5, at that, we all have most of the genetically pre-hardwired structures that work in thinking.

Thus, I agree, Clawn, we think very similar thoughts with only the content of the thoughts being different over the course of time. For example, you can see in idiomatic terminologies, how things that are in a social group's lifestyle can have bearing on thought content. Just 200 years ago, even, you wouldn't get the same content that many of us today--who speak English--would get when we hear the phrase, 'step on it.'

There will surely be many, many other thoughts which do have the same content--'I'm hungry.' I'll spend some more time thinking about that today. Good subject to think about, Clawn !! 👍

Carl Jung thought there was a "collective unconscious" where thoughts could be picked up by different people. I basically believe that we're all connected in some way and could pick up others' thoughts.

Lately I've been wrestling with a modem messed up by a lightning storm, and have just gotten back online after about 2 weeks. In one storm we had there were 38,000 lightning strikes, the same amount as for the whole year so far. It was lightning without thunder, almost like strobe lights outside. When it flashed you could see everything like it was daylight.

As for the getting out of the box thing, I've done that once so far in my life (figuratively), so I know it can be done. Have faith!

What's on my mind? Happiness, life and looking forward to the future, the many good things to think about and consider, how lucky I am... and the ordinary tedium of having to come into work, having reports to write, boring things to do... yet still life is good... :)... ways to make money, and yet how it doesn't really matter how much money we have or don't have... how things are possible.

And oh how nice does the ring of those immediately above thoughts resound throughout my memories too!! Really nice, there, Kinsao chan...really nice !! :-)

I'm thinking about how I have to drop my French class due to the fact that I fell behind and I would be hard pressed to catch up in time. Sorta sucks that my class only meets twice a week. :/ I'll try again next semester.

Oh man !! Do I know that feeling...even though it's been some ...well, we'll leave the year count to the stars...

I had to drop one class when I was starting off at my first hope-to-die sophmore year at the University of Arizona, because it was before lunchtime...and, uh, well, as it turned out, I somehow couldn't manage to wake up before lunch time...hee, hee, hee...do your best, hang in there, and get it right next time 'round !! MM

Yeah, so I dropped the class around 8 AM today. I was twenty minutes late to my COM-101 class so I didn't even bother trying to get into the classroom. :| Ah well, at least this is better than that wretched nightmare we all know and despise as high school.

At the moment there is one thing on my mind that no matter what I think will not go away, and that is how do you stop a biological father from further hurting his daughter mentally? In October I have to take my step-daughter to court near me so that she can give evidence against her natural father and for him to explain as to why the mobile phone he gave to her for Christmas is regarded as stolen property.
To hurt Children is not nice, but to hurt children again and again is even worse.

That's awful :/ I hope everything works out for you and your daughter. Scumbags who emotionally abuse their family do not deserve to be considered human.

I think the main thing anyone can do who is being hurt by someone else is to get as much distance as possible from them. We can't change another person's behavior, but we can try to protect ourselves as best we can. Good luck at court - maybe it will give some kind of closure.

Thank You for that Faustianideals, I do hope things work out for her and me and her mother, all of whom are on here lol.
I am going to stand by her, I am proud of want she wants to do with her life, she is good at drama, and if she does well at School and gets into college and takes her studies further, then I will use my family connections and write to the President of R.A.D.A (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts) and try to see how she can study to be an actress there. Maybe one day in the future I wont just see my mothers, grandmothers and great-aunts names on the silver screen, but also my daughters name.
She even wants to change my surname to mine, and I am all in favour of her doing that.
She also wants to sue her natural father for emotional damage and wants at least £20,000 for all the pain and suffering she has suffered in her life.

Sara, once she has finished her high schooling in two years time, I am planning to move all of us to Southern England, near a very familar place to me called Longleat.

I can unfortunately do nothing more than also wish you all the best !!

I hope it all works out, and that her ability to act, and make into that world all work out !!

I went to a concert yesterday, and I have a nasty sunburn to prove it, lol. It was so fun! I saw Mindless Self Indulgence, My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, and HIM. All bands I enjoy very much. :D It was also my little brother's first concert, so I was glad to take him to it.

I've also been very worried about my catfish, Crusty. He has what I think is "bloat" and isn't eating very much (he usually ate like he was starving all the time - zucchini (courgette), a vegetable mix and algae wafers. I've been searching on the internet and there are forums and articles about bloat in plecos - it could be internal parasites or a bacterial infection (and I've even read that fish can get cancer). I've been trying one medicine after another, but so far nothing has really helped. He seems to feel okay, is still sociable and likes listening to music. Would anyone here happen to know anything about this??

Not looking for any sympathy, just a place to vent.

Hmmm, What's on my mind recently? Alot. It has been a terrible year and an even terrible decade/new century. I know as we get older people pass away, but I wish they wouldn't pass away so close together. At least it seems that way as, the older you get, the faster time flies.

In 2000 I lost my father, in 2004 my younger brother passed away in my arms from cancer; this year I lost my closest uncle and his wife passed a few months later. And in 2005 we lost our dearest companion dog of 14 years.

Then last Saturday my mom was visiting and when I walked into the bedroom to wake her up for her trip home I found her dead. Seems she passed quietly in her sleep. She wasn't feeling all to well, but the doctors and us never figured on this! I arranged to have her body flown to NY where she lived and worked, drove her car up there for the wake and funeral and had her creamated and buried with her parents. Luckily I have a sister living there to take care of the rest or I'd be a total mess by now.

The strangest part about that funeral was all the relatives and friends you haven't seen in like 20 years or so. In a way it was like walking out of a time capsule where I felt I hadn't aged a bit, but everyone else has because you remember them as you last saw them. Some I wouldn't have recognized at all if they hadn't introduced themselves, or been introduced, to me. What an odd feeling.

Some people say things get easier as you age and in some ways it does if you plan and are smart with finances, but I think it was Uncle Frank who said once that the saddest thing about getting older is the relatives and friends you begin to lose. He is right.

Thanks for the vent!

Pachipro I cannot say how sorry I am to hear your sad news. :( My thoughts are with you and your family.

Maybe because I deal with death a lot in my job....

I think a person who dies in their sleep have the best death of all? I know that no death is good, but one where you are not in a hospital or nursing home suffering or in pain seems like a good way to leave this earth. For some reason , I feel an unexpected death is a less fearful way to die. Very sorry Pachipro , that you had to have such a thing happen to you. I hope the little time you had together before her death will become a good memory someday down the road. My condolances.

Uncle Frank

:(
