Dear friends,

I'm a brazilian guy, and have just started learning japanese. I'm very attracted to the japanese culture - specially the moral values and the samurai era - and I'm learning japanese to be more able to study about it.

I'm just in the first semester of the course, therefore I'm still learning hiragana and katakana, and have no vocabulary at all. I know maybe a dozen of kanjis, and that's all. :) Then, I would like to ask if somebody could translate the lyrics of the beautiful song "Kimerareta Rizumu" (決められたリズ), from the marvelous movie Tasogare Seibei. I've watched the movie months ago, and since then I'm trying to get the lyrics. This week, I've found it, searching in hiragana! :) This was my first successful search in hiragana, and I'm happy with it! :)

The lyrics are below. I would be really grateful if somebody could translate it to english for me. I already have it in spaced hiragana and in romaji (I've used an automatic tool to convert it), therefore I just need the english translation (if possible verse by verse). Thanks very much!

hiya anciaes-san,
I guess it's difficult to translate the lyrics you posted above...
I myself am not sure what it's about! :p

As chickie-san says, lyrics are difficult to translate because the author tries to make it poetic and very often vague, therefore open to different interpretations.

Inoue Yosui is known for lyricism, so asking to translate it is a difficult job--something you have to pay a service fee for to get it done.

Basically, he is (probably) writing about his school days, going through fixed routines, which were dreary in some instances and fun in others.

HTH! 😌

epigne-san, I think you're right.
I thought he's talking about the daily routine, but I never thought it's about his school days! it shows my lack of imagination:mad:

It's only a guess, chickie-san!
We may never know unless we get Inoue Yosui to answer! 😊

Would we ever know the answer if we'd got him😊
HE'S SO UNIQUE!
I love his interviews. They're always hilarious!

Hello everyone! At total random I have found this site and I have read that you want to know the translation of this wonderful song. Well….i have good news for you. A few years ago, while I was a student,we had some classes of Japanese movie. And one of our homeworks was to translate into Romanian precisely this song. Now I have translated it into English. I know it doesn't sound so great, but that's the basic meaning of the song.
Greetings from Romania !

A pre-established rhythm

I have been awaken and told to get dressed with a white shirt on which the winter's ice was stuck.
I have been made to walk in the morning on a long,pre-established road,
But I stumbled.
They have made me angry everytime they played a trick on me.
The silence gets through the windows:
Papers have been delivered for a test.
Than the bell rings like a refrain.

Singing voices joint together, accompanied by the piano
Are rising to the sky in a pre-established rhythm.

I have been made to stand up and I have been laughed at.
I have been left all alone by the window,
I have been forgiven,than praised.
And casting down my eyes,I'm going(walking) home.

The fact of having been surprised to feel how my heart was beating
When I have been given a white love letter….
The fact of being loved,of being chosen, was my first dream gift.

Singing voices joint together, accompanied by the piano
Are rising to the sky in a pre-established rhythm…..
In a pre-established rhythm…..
